I feel like you had the exact same issues as me with Fear the Flames. I also gave it 2 stars. For me Romantasy is where there is a good fantasy setting with a romance in the foreground. So, there should be a good amount of fantasy, whether it be in world building, or magic system and a palpable romantic connection that drives the story. That's why Fear the Flames did not deliver for me, the only fantastical element was the dragons and the bond of the heroine with said dragons.

Definitely agree, it was very lacking for me as well. So do you think they’re just using romantasy as a term for fantasy romance now? Or they’re different?
@jens112_14 күн бұрын
@@christireadsalot I don’t think fantasy romance and romantasy are being used as different terms anymore. I agree though, soooo many books that I would think of as romance are now being categorized as romantasy, I assume to increase booktok views 🤷♀️

I haven’t had any outstanding reads in December, but two the I just had a fun time with were My Favorite Holidate by Lauren Blakely and Christmas with an Alien by Tana Stone, and I believe those were both free with audible plus

Oooh both sound so fun! 👏

I could have a dayssss long convo about the romantasy vs fantasy romance topic 😂 but it feels like romantasy was created to capitalize on the success of ACOTAR / Fourth Wing bringing romance readers over to the fantasy genre for the first time & hoping to keep them around
@christireadsalot13 күн бұрын
It’s so true! I definitely agree about it becoming a thing after the popularity of Fourth Wing. Which I’m definitely glad it brought more people to try out any type of fantasy book, but the term is just so confusing now that it’s used on everything. 😅😅

I hate the term romantasy tbh and I would love clarification from publishing! To me fantasy romance = equal parts plot and world building with equal romance while romantasy is more heavy on the romance with minimal fantasy elements.
@christireadsalot11 күн бұрын
I agree, I’m not a fan of the term! And that’s what I thought it was too but now it seems to just be the new term for any fantasy romance? It’s so confusing!

I was sad when you said in a previous video you had not read the original Fear the Flames. The older version is so much richer, especially in character depth. The new edition rushes through plot points so they end up making no sense. It removes a lot of relationships building scenes, and adds meaningless plot points that go nowhere. The FMC is much more immature, such as the nickname she gives to the MMC that she never called him in the first edition. If you are ever able to read the indie edition I highly recommend it, but the new edition definitely can merit a 2⭐️
