December Season LIVE 2023 | OrumaiyuDan | Virutham | Vallalar | வள்ளலார் | Sikkil Gurucharan

Sikkil Gurucharan renders the timeless classical verse by Ramalinga Swamigal or Vallalar as a Virutham in Behak, Abheri and Thodi. These verses were written in praise of Lord Muruga at Kandhakottam in present day Georgetown, Chennai. This verse was also filmed in the 1962 classic movie "Konjum Salangai" where Soolamangalam Rajalakshmi sings it for Savithri's character.
Concert held on December 27th 2023 at Tamil Isai Sangam, not very far from the shrine itself!
These verses are beautifully enriched by Vishwas Hari on the Mandolin and Sanjith Narayanan on Violin.

Meaning:
“I want the company of those noble people who meditate on your lotus feet with single-minded devotion. I want to avoid the relationship with those deceptive people who say something out without really meaning what they say.
I should sing your glory and fame. I should not utter falsehood. I should have high morals. I should not be subject to arrogance and pride.
I should forget carnal pleasures. I should not forget you. I want high intellect. I want your immense compassion. I should have a healthy life.”
