Whats up captain Ross, Good stuff here man. I usually fish out of the Geneva marina and we catch up some quantities and decent size but I've never come across any monsters.

Went out yesterday out of Cleveland got 5 right away at 80 and 120 back. Then one rogue fish went insane and crossed my lines. It was a mess. I just respooled my line counters and had them dead on. That being said when this happens how do you get you line counters set again? I had to cut off quite a bit of line and land the fish by hand. Do you add line and join it with double uni or do you take off a lot more line to get back to your 100' setting ? Thanks

Do you ever jig fish for walleye on Erie. Looks so boring to reel in a walleye while boat is in gear with a planar board attached.

Are you running your longest lead inside without weight? I have had some people say to run longest lead outside when not using snap weights and wondering what is the correct way? I. Can't seem to find a previous video on this.

Correct way is whatever works for you. I run shallow outside and deepest inside

Question for you, I recently noticed I never see you use the twisted line/loop method to release the front clip on the planner boards. Is there a reason for that ? Higher percentage of landed fish?
@Bigwaterfishing3 жыл бұрын
Not a fan of that method
@brianschaible95353 жыл бұрын
@@Bigwaterfishing could you elaborate on why? Last summer was my first walleye trolling and I used the loop trick. I loved it at first but then I started to have lines break when I pulled the board loose. Is this why you aren’t a fan? Just curious as how to work more efficiently next season. Great video as usual.

( Hear me ) You say let the big female walleyes go but you are not understanding the facts that the big female walleyes aren't as fertile as the younger female walleyes and when you take the smaller female walleyes, you will be taking away from the hatchery of good eggs .. You are messing up the whole hatchery because the male walleyes are giving seed to old female walleyes eggs that won't take seed .. It would be wise to take the old female walleyes out but leave the old male walleyes in .... Just ask the people that do the egg hatchery for walleyes...

I beg to differ. Once you take a big fish out of the system it takes as much as 15yrs to duplicate that. On Erie many of those big fish don't even spawn every year, but much they have superior genes that need to be passed on. Much like people there are lots of numbers but not many Navy Seal type genes in the pool. The four to seven pounders do account for numbers, but like the people reference one for one isn't a accurate comparison. We see this in the deer community. By releasing trophy fish you are hardly messing up the fishery. I've seen many of the so called expert biologist mess up a serious amount of fisheries all across the US with different philosophies. As anglers all we can agree on is once you take a fish out we can't put him back. Trophy muskie or bass fisheries don't thrive because they remove the giants, but instead the small fish. Same goes for bluegills. I personally rarely keep any fish, but when I do I keep smaller ones for many reasons
