I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle kzbin.infoUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.

I just bought 2-462's and they are screamers with super low weight. Until they get the weight down on the 500I the 462's will get the nod. A 1/2 lb. heavier for the 500I but try lugging that extra 1/2 lb. around all day bucking limbing logs through the brush. It does make a difference.

Well deserved likes and views on this one. While other reviews rave about how great the 500i is due to being newest, FI, etc. we have a real test here. I've had my ms441cm for 10+ years and it's been flawless. BUT i must say im so fucking disappointed with the air filter system. After about 6 hours work the filter is more packed than any saw i have ever used. It feels like it sucks in sawdust from those openings on the airfilter cover. I feel i have to clean it after every 2 hours or smth, which is just stupid. Also everytime u wiggle out that stupid filter you increase the chances of getting fine dust into the hole which is hard to get out because of the shape.

And regarding durability you’ve gotta be joking I have a mate who’s a pro logger he’s got two both got in excess of 250hrs on both not one issue with either

@@garryaylward8050 heavier crankshaft larger bearings for sure on 572 not cylinder. 250 hours is nothing on a pro saw. All 5 of my saws are well in excess of 1000 hours. Use good oil and keep sharp.

I’m sick and tired hearing about durability on the stihl saws. Stihl are no dummies they have done there homework and tested all around the world there won’t be any issues regarding durability whatsoever. You guys talking about durability the 562 550 series huskys here in Australia early on were atrocious had a mate who runs a tree service couldn’t even get a season out of them hot start problems. The fact of the matter is that the 576 & 441 were both good saws but not popular & consumers told both companies what they wanted & on that issue only one company delivered guess which one

To right mate. That's what we found here in New Zealand also. The Stihl products are breathtakingly reliable. Probably peaked though on the previous generation 460, 660 for 8 hour a day saws.

@@HighMaintenancePS In America our Stihls would only last 8 hours a day. We switched to Husky and were able to get 9. Makes a difference at the end of the year.

I didn't know you have to remove the chip guide for an 8pin?! Edit: also the dolmar is the true king here, it simply requires the muffler to be liberated from the perils of the epa.

I cut a lot of firewood /30 cords or so a year and I cut with a 066 early 90s and a 046 2001 model of course I maintain them and I have gone through several 28” bars and more chain than I would like to admit if you want to cut blocks that are big and a bunch of them at ounce the 066 German made saw of the early 90s is with out a doubt the best cutting most durable saw I have ever used I’m glad I didn’t trade it when I upgraded to a 661 Stihl needs to put some more ccs into the 500 i and they need to get them into the pro market in America right now all that is available are their over produced electronic saws that are hard to customize and will let you down I ran a 362 for a year in lodgepole yes the intelligent carb put me back to my o46 enough to convince me to get rid of it so that’s my take sawing wood is enjoyable pulling on a cord is not

Personally, I do not like computer controlled saws. Mtronic and Auto Tune saws take three pulls to get enough juice in the system to run and I am sure the fuel injected saws are no different. Computer controlled saws were not developed to help the user but to reduce warranty claims. Weight is a big problem on big saws. They need laminated bars to make them manageable. My ms 360 has a 20 inch Total bar on it and it is a manageable saw. My ms 361 has a 20 inch Forester bar on it and it is heavy. An Oilamatic bar on an ms 180 is fine but the same bar on one of my bigger saws is a load, but still lighter than a 460 Husqvarna. My ms 361 with a 20 inch Forester Sprocket nose P to bar is still lighter than a 460 husky.
