The changeover in the UK was even bumpier than in Australia...........the biggest hurdle by far is not the number crunching but the attitudes of the Brits towards change. My Grandmother never recovered from this...........she was never happy after this day. She said to me once............"These are new tricks..........and i am an old dog!"

Craziest thing in the UK was insisting we run both metric and imperial measurements and not going all metric. We measure in miles but fill our petrol tanks in litres but still speak of miles per gallon! We still have acres and furlongs and other such measurements. Probably few kids nowadays would have a clue as to what these were!

What makes this even more confusing is the first time when the narration is slightly out of sync with the change being given. At least the second time it's accurate so I can understand it. What a crazy old video. It also should have mentioned how she paid £1 for a 31.5p item in the first place instead of just jumping straight in!

I had to change in primary school just as I made sense of pennies, sixpence and pounds. The old system made as much sense as that indecipherable scribbly writing they did. It still looks like incoherent crap to me. Imperial measurements are based on fractions which has it's merits. A dozen for example is easily divided by 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8. Ideal for rescaling the ingredients of a cake. Metric measurements on the other hand are better for science as the numbers relate to physics and all base 10.
