Also known as Destroy all Planets, Gamera vs Viras shows that as early as the 4th movie of the original 8 film Gamera series, they were already running out of ideas. Seemingly taking several pages from the Godzilla film Destroy all Monsters plotwise, what the budget didn't allow the producers to fill in they simply made up for with liberal use of stock footage. This amounts to quite a strange feature... but is there a silver lining to this cloud?

I'd also like to leave a comment about Gamera being impaled by Viras - as it also happens later through the Gamera series as well. Something like this was explained in a Death Battle episode featuring the Ninja Turtles; Turtle Anatomy is actually widely dispersed throughout a turtle's body, as opposed to human anatomy, which is more or less packed together. As such, it's highly unlikely that even if Gamera WERE to be impaled, that anything vital would be hit, leaving him in life-threatening condition. It's actually one of the reasons I thought Godzilla could LOSE in a battle with Gamera. The big reason being my comment directly below this one.

This was one of the first Gamera movies I saw a a kid and although as an adult, I would be angered by the footage from previous movies, as a kid, I realized there were more Gamera movies -- so yay!

First time I watched it on free-to-air television, I thought, what the heck did I just watch? Some immediate thoughts: 1. They did it really on the cheap. The two kids and the other scouts were probably real scouts, for they had their own uniforms: that would have taken care of a significant slice of the costumes budget. 2. While they could have thought of really scary alien character designs, that would have increased the costume cost. Sensibly, they went for the scariest non-alien option: Frenchmen, or specifically a low-rent attempt at being Marcel Marceau. Or something.
