Souness is right about rice (just as he was about casemiro) when it comes to his passing game in buildup he is too safe with it but he rarely loses the ball. However his switches of play are good. With better players I think he will improve in the buildup phase and won't remain useless like Casemiro. But his real talent is breaking up play. Rants is understating this for banter purposes which is understandable, but Rice's defensive positioning, stopping counter attacks, intercepting, tackling is on point - those are his best attributes and he is elite at those things.

Rants has a tendency to go after players in an extreme way 😂 It's entertaining but I'm not sure he actually believes what he is saying a lot of the time. Debruyne is NOT a bum and Declan is definitely a notch above average. Wouldn't go as far as world class but he isn't bang average. Good interceptor, tackler, header, leader. Can take the ball on the half turn, keep the ball under pressure and in tight spaces, can drive with the ball into the final third. Not the greatest or cutest passer, but that's pretty much all he lacks as a deep lying midfielder. He would be an upgrade on Mctominay and Fred in my opinion. But the price tag makes him look overrated.
