Is it normal for humans to band with elves if your dwarf fortress gets all genocidal like in this current playthrough? I've always been fascinated by this game but cant muster the balls to play it. It's just too daunting, and im a dude who sometimes fire up an old KOEI game from the early 90s for some VGA 16bit fun.

I'm not sure. Rushedfang was right next door to some human settlements so it might have just been a little bit of intermingling maybe?

Chances are those humans migrated to the elf civilization, either due to being refugees or being conquered by the elves and decided to stay as citizens. The longer a world has been running the higher the chances of having racially diverse civilizations. This is less likely but those humans may also be adventurers or mercenaries hired by the elven kingdom (this happens during world generation but not too sure if it happens during fortress mode). Basically unless you go into legends mode and look up the history of those specific characters we'll never know why they were there haha. P.S. Do you think you'll give the game a go once the steam version comes out? It'll have tutorials and the UI upgrades will make learning the game infinitely easier. Not to mention the graphical improvements.

Okay u hearted a longer format request and that WOULD be cool right but I just subbed and belled because this format of dwarf fortress video is about the only one I can stand. I'd watch an 8 hour version of what you make here but I cannot stand the utter drag that is 99% of DF content. Only commenting this cuz as I went to comment I saw that hearted comment. Maybe you could do both? Keep these up but also release the raw long-form footage? My original comment was actually going to be just that I think your content will go far since it's got a unique covering of DF by being well-edited and not just a longplay. Whatever you end up doing good luck I really like the style you have now though and I think others do too

You had a wereape attack, and chose NOT to weaponize them against the elves? That was a huge wasted opportunity. You quarantine until its time, send in the whereapes on a full moon, then while everyone is recovering you send in clean up crews to kill off first responders and medical personnel. If the wereapes win and kill everyone you just collect them in the morning and repeat on the next elven settlement. You never waste perfectly good dwarves on exile, you just play fast and loose with them.
