Agitated Animals are so brutal early on, lost a perfectly fine Fort to it. Too be fair, building almost entirely above ground while also mass deforesting may have been a bad idea…

One silver lining to untamed wilds that I’ve noticed is that you normally never have to worry about meat. The meat walks up to your front door and even removes some of the mouths you need to feed before they get butchered. It’s a 2-for-1 deal.

You can harvest meat by going to the caverns. But, military training is sped up since the dorfs get battle exp.

To establish contact with more places/civilizations, you can can send some dwarves to demand tribute and that seems to do it without causing a war or anything for the most part. This might help you get more visitors from those places.
@Kevin-jb2pv7 ай бұрын
Yeah, as of the most current version, demanding tribute will never cause a war. If anything, the thing you really need to worry about is getting overzealous with demanding tribute, leading to every new season causing 10+ trade wagons to show up without diplomats to request goods from. Sounds OK, until you realize that your fort has turned into an endless wagon train of merchants hauling in crap you don't want and bringing pitifully small amounts of gold to buy with. If you _really_ need to sell _a lot_ of stuff and are buying very little, and you don't mind spending 30 - 45 minutes dicking around with the trade menus every season, then it can work out, though, lol.

It’s refreshing to see how many creators (you included) don’t frame dwarf deaths as failures where so many games are about keeping your individuals safe, this game can be brutal really fast and it’s cool to see how you can still manage to pull it off through hardships. I’ve not had much success on the wild biomes but I’m hoping to try one next time! Thanks for the videos and ideas!

DF does have a "hand out flyers" option! It consists of sending an unarmed belligerent "messenger" in their own squad to "demand tribute" (presumably via their patronage) from uncontacted civilizations. This gets me caravans from nearby civs, but I haven't had success with natural tavern and library visitors. It seems like forts just get those from the start or they don't, no matter how many polite advertisements you send to other civs. Oh well. They mostly just show up to steal artifacts anyways.
@avwvuhoc Жыл бұрын
i hear 'demand one-time tribute' is a decent way to start getting contact from other civs that seem to be ignoring you
@hoodiehair Жыл бұрын
yeah I thought they would be mad at me if I tried that but apparently they don't mind too much
@wateriswet9301 Жыл бұрын
@hoodie hair I rationalize it from a role-playing perspective that dwarves are rather rude and instead of getting house warming gifts from neighbors, they go out and demand it. Like instead of getting the free casserole from the old lady neighbor they all march up to her door and demand it.

Fun project! Such tragic little stories occurred along the way. I always thought it would be cool to make an ultra-luxury hotel (that happens to be riddled with ghosts) in Dwarf Fortress. No idea if you could make it pleasant enough to live in to make up for all the paranormal activity.

My current fort has the same problem, turns out that in some cases if your embark area overlaps with the ocean you just won't ever get visitors. My last fort constantly had 50+ useless nobles visiting, so for me it's a nice change of pace.

ive had a similar thing with 0 visitors when settling in a coastline, then read in the forums that there is a bug where settling in the coast makes the game think you are an isolated island, so only your own civ shows up

What are some of the difficulty settings you use to get attacked by over 30+ animals and animal people at the start of the fort? Im looking to make things more difficult in my games
@fuchsiafreud Жыл бұрын
This is what happens if you take any Untamed Wilds biome and cut down 50 trees, I don't think the difficulty setting affects this particular dynamic. I guess you can put in on 'hard' to be "safe." Edit: Do note how killing a wave spawns another, immediately. Horrible mechanic, totally gamey, incentivising you to keep the last specimen of a hostile group around.

These are way better than they have any right to be. Loving the three for one deal we got on this upload. But now I gotta be an asshole, recommend getting a better mic, the peaking and clipping from the audio is actually painful on headphones. I dumped it into audacity to see if it was a software issue but its just the way your mic handles your pronunciation of certain words. Recommend a condenser microphone to avoid that issue in future recordings.
