DECLUTTERING MY MASCARA COLLECTION - I AM A HOARDER//my favourite mascaras and the oldest

I used to be obsessed with mascara; I would buy as many as I could and I would never get rid of them. The past two years I've been on a makeup no buy and I've been trying to declutter my collection and curate it, keeping only the items I love. I decided to go through my WHOLE mascara collection and slowly get rid of the bad ones. Can you guess how many I own? Girl, if I had eyelashes like yours I'd be obsessed with mascara too. I used to be a waterproof girl but over the years they made my lashes more sparse and my lashes kept falling out. Then I discovered tubing mascaras which are great at holding a curl (I have straight asian lashes) and are super easy to remove with just warm water! They don't smudge either. It's kind of the best of both worlds in my opinion 😊

oh wow sorry to hear that about your lashes falling out! I have tried tubing mascaras too and have liked them but haven't found they've made a huge difference over my other mascaras. Just goes to show how different makeup is for everyone!

Wow! 40 mascaras! I am one of those people who just open one and use it until it's gone or in the only case of one that flaked from the start, I realise that life is too short and it is ok to move on to another one. I also never chuck them until they are dry so always exceed 6 months and I've never had a problem. There's no point hanging on to things you can't actually use so good to declutter them. I think of mascara a bit like nail varnish, it's a childhood to adolescence gateway drug to wearing a full face of makeup because it's kind of foolproof, application wise, and it makes a big difference to your appearance. A few people at my workplace are very into the lengthening treatments for lashes. I don't know what it is called but I think it was discovered through lash lengthening being a side effect of a glaucoma treatment. It's about £12 a tube online and you use it like mascara. I've never tried it but the results that I've seen look very impressive. I'm guessing that there must be some issue with this stuff though, otherwise every mascara maker would be adding it in. I keep wondering why it's not better known about.

This is what I don't understand, when people say they 'use a mascara until it's done' - because for me that never happens! Somehow my mascaras always have product left in them (except of course with these ones which had dried up because it had been a decade lol) So I just don't know what that would look like. I've tried some supposedly lengthening products but haven't really noticed a difference!

For me the mascara is just drier and there comes a point where the bristles don't give much colour, that's the point at which I discard them, it's usually a year or so of daily use. I guess if you think it still works, it doesn't matter, if it's not dry for you then go ahead, that's a good thing! @@dr.claire.perfume Huh interesting! Maybe that just didn't happen to me because I hopped from one mascara to another so quickly, because I had so many. And huh, I hadn't heard of that particular brand but I have definitely heard of Latisse! I'm currently using this L'Oreal one but can't tell if it works.

That chemical Bimatoprost in lash treatments can permanently turn blue eyes brown and other side effects. Its a glaucoma eye drops treatment. My friends eyes darkened after using them

I don't know why but I find drugstore mascara better than high-end. Except for too faced, their better than Sex mascara is probably the best ever. But I had lancome, clinique and Sensai and I'm always very disappointed. Does anyone feel the same way?

Huh interesting! I've definitely tried high end mascaras that I haven't liked but I've also liked a bunch of them! just overall haven't found much of a difference between high end and drugstore.

I definitely had one of those Covergirl Lash Blasts...totally forgot until I saw the bright orange tube! The only mascara I’ve ever really liked was the Too Faced Better than Sex; I bought a travel sized one and used it all up (a first for me!). The oldest makeup in my collection are definitely my lipsticks, some are circa 2014, but still perform, haven’t lost any pigment, and haven’t gone off yet (surprisingly).

Wow you have had a good experience with makeup! I was definitely more of a hoarder. And that’s super impressive about your lip products! I think my lip products are among the oldest items in my collection just because it so hard to use them up!!
