Your mom is just precious. I love how easy it was for her to make decisions. When my mother and I did this it was hard to get her to let go of things. I had to put things in a box and told they could wait and see if she needed them and if she didn’t they would be donated in 6 months.

You are so fortunate that your mom is willing to declutter. My mom had hoarding tendencies and wouldn't declutter anything. When she and Dad moved a few years ago, she filled an entire Pod just with junk from the basement. Last spring/summer she passed away, and my dad moved in with my brother. Thankfully Dad is not sentimental about things. It took several very long days, and most of Mom's "treasures" ended up at a thrift store or in the trash.

Your Mom certainly raised you right, you are so respectful of her needs and wants, my daughter in law recently told me to clean and clear all my stuff, because she doesn’t want to do when I’m gone, so true, maybe next week, have large home with tons of stuff after hosted my large family for sever years, which no longer do, let the younger ones host now.

I'm 64 and clearing out my house. It feels so good partly because it gives me less to deal with and less for the family to deal with when I pass. Finding the time to take care of mom and share memories is priceless. My husband is currently with his mom, helping her with her house. She's 94.

I just happened upon this video and love it. I helped my mom, do a huge Declutter of her house over the course of about a year and a half in preparation to move her to a two bedroom apartment. What a huge undertaking it was! She has some dementia, but is still able to live on her own in the senior living apartments. There are things we need to Declutter now because she’s just not able to do things that she used to do like cooking and scrapbooking. Unfortunately, she is not able to realize what she really is using and what she isn’t so she is reluctant to get rid of anything.

Your mom is good at letting things go. You’re a blessing to her for helping her to go through her things. My sister has been trying to help my mom do the same thing. Her problem is mom doesn’t really get rid of stuff, she has my sister take it to the barn, to store it. I was thanking my sister for helping her and she gets frustrated with her because she’ll go to the barn and bring things back.

My parents are 83 and 87. I have offered to clean their house, move in, shop for them, donate things, etc. All to no avail. My mom falls and my dad has poor eyesight and hearing. I dont know why they are so stubborn. They need help. You're fortunate.

This is such a good example of Americans never even thinking to use a tray or box to move things. So many trips! Europeans use trays whenever they carry almost anything! We need to learn to do the same thing. You can easily carry a tray full of objects, or or put them in a shallow box, if you don't have a tray. But soooo many trips with just what you can carry in your hands! AARGH! Thanks for the video!

It is last traumatic probably for his mother to see him carry one or two items away then a big tray full of her things. Even though she’s making it look easy getting rid of things that she’s had for a very long time it is extremely difficult. I know this from experience working with my mom on decluttering her closet.
