Your mom is just precious. I love how easy it was for her to make decisions. When my mother and I did this it was hard to get her to let go of things. I had to put things in a box and told they could wait and see if she needed them and if she didn’t they would be donated in 6 months.

You are so fortunate that your mom is willing to declutter. My mom had hoarding tendencies and wouldn't declutter anything. When she and Dad moved a few years ago, she filled an entire Pod just with junk from the basement. Last spring/summer she passed away, and my dad moved in with my brother. Thankfully Dad is not sentimental about things. It took several very long days, and most of Mom's "treasures" ended up at a thrift store or in the trash.

Wow! Your Mom really didn’t have much to declutter. I cleaned out my parents house that was full of cr@p! About 10+ apartment size dumpsters full of stuff and many trips to the thrift store. I just happened upon this video and love it. I helped my mom, do a huge Declutter of her house over the course of about a year and a half in preparation to move her to a two bedroom apartment. What a huge undertaking it was! She has some dementia, but is still able to live on her own in the senior living apartments. There are things we need to Declutter now because she’s just not able to do things that she used to do like cooking and scrapbooking. Unfortunately, she is not able to realize what she really is using and what she isn’t so she is reluctant to get rid of anything.

Her problem is mom doesn’t really get rid of stuff, she has my sister take it to the barn, to store it. you two are so lovely, when your mom showed you how to use the candle holder, i cracked, she is still so sharp and able, standing upright with high energy. you should be aware, she might get bored and elope with another guy to las vegas, start a new life all over again with her energy and adopt kids, raise them, marry them away and then after 50 years, retire finally somewhere in hawaii , chilling at the beach and sipping her drinks. i always heard about the concept "gentle parenting", raising kids with including them, being considerade about their needs, but i think the "gentle parenting" can go other way too, being gentle to own parent, treating gently without too much cuddling, perfectly shown here.
