Great info as always guys, we use 1 man, 2 man, and vibra screeds all the time. I've been on a few jobs with the laser screeds, but don't have one..... yet!

Hi Jeff, that's a great video. Even though I have take the training classes I always confused the proper tools to use when integral color and color hardener and also what is the proper order after screening. I know some times you use different bull floats and steel. For example the other day I was doing a patio with color hardener hardener. We screed the concrete and then I was kind confused what bull float to use before the color and what after the color, also at what point I use the lrg steel float. Also what about when doing integral color. I would appreciate if you make a detailed video. I have watch all the videos but I couldn't find something with details.

hey george! the order will always be bull float after screeding, and steel float right before stamping. magnesium floats work best for integral color, resin or wooden floats when using color hardener.

Hi. I have forms all set to go. 24x22 ft slab for a patio at the back of my house. Ready to order my ready mix soon. My question....Should I break the form into two parts to make it easier to screed? If so, what should I use....a temporary 2x4? then screed and pull out and screed the remainder?? Or....Half thinking of putting in a foot wide concrete pathway and screed from that instead of using a temporary 2x4. What do you reckon? Thanks.

Thanks for the question! Most concrete contractors would set grade stakes in the middle of the slab. They would be set to the final slab height and used to set a guide line in the concrete to screed off of. This will require some screeding experience, and you may want to get someone who has done it before to help with part this part. I'll leave a link to another video at the bottom. The video is about slab thickness, but there's a part about grade stakes at the 2:38 mark. There's no right or wrong in your case if this slab is for you and the other solutions you mentioned would work. They would just come with their own set of challenges like cold joints that can be hard to blend together, more formwork, and even a second concrete truck if do the walkway through the middle. I am pouring a 12x14 slab in my yard and I was wondering if I could screed it with a pvc pipe. This is a diy project and finding 2x4s that are a do-able length that are square and unbowed is damn near impossible.

pvc pipe will probably be too flexible.. we would recommend trying to find a nice and straight redwood 2x4

If you have a vibrating screed, but the concrete is too wet, it can be easier to drag the vibrating screed turned off.
