A great way to learn morse code is to listen to the ARRL code transmissions at their various speeds. This video contains a sample ARRL broadcast received on the Elecraft KX3 and decoded on its display. The KX3 can decode CW and display it when the signal is very strong and the code is sent very cleanly as is this this machine generated code from ARRL.

When there is radio wave propagation in my direction, I like to listen to ARRL code transmissions. 73! from West Siberia de UA9OTW/QRP

That would be a GREAT way to learn Morse code. I also used the ARRL practice transmissions back in the early 70s when I was studying to become a ham. I've used CW 99.9% of the time since, and 15 WPM sounds grindingly slow now. lol. Thing is.. i absolutely love to slow it down as far as needed to chat with a ham. 5 WPM? No problem. Oddly, at slow speed, I have to start jotting things down on paper again. I lose the 'flow' of the text which i start to get at about 20. BTW, I use my decoder on my FTdx3000 when in 'tests, calling a weak station, etc. Sometimes it digs out what my aging ears can't. GREAT video!!!

It sounds as if the CW decoder on your FTdx3000 works better than the one on the KX3. The KX3 decoder doesn't work on weak signals, through noise or for imprecise code sent without a keyer (straight key and bugs). I like to say it's for entertainment purposes only. OTOH, the KX3 can decode PSK and RTTY on it's display without a computer, so that's handy.

@@HamRadioQRP Yep, my yeasu also decodes rtty and psk altho I've never played with it. Well, rtty once but it's not really my thing. I like your phrase 'for entertainment purposes only'. That's a perfect description of the spectrum display on my rig. Thanks for the look at the radios and stuff... I always look forward to your vids. 73 OM

Seems to me if you decode by machine you might as well send by machine This is nothing to me
