This has nothing to do with sinking. It is purely because you change the direction and the opponent lost her root.

Yes I can completely see why you think it is purely based on changing the direction, because you do indeed change the aspect of direction. And that's a easy and helpful place you start. Because as you explore from more forceful to more subtle ways of causing this change of direction, you may discover what we mean by creating the quality of sinking. You may just be forcing them down at first, or you may find that it's easier to yield a lot, and sometimes people do exactly that, big physical circles of yielding as it helps them to develop their skill in Tai Chi to a higher level. That's pretty much how push hand patterns tend to be right? They start with big circles to help you eventually neutralize and fa with smaller movements, do they not? And somewhen in that practice, when you have the Intention of sinking, you can begin to develop the skill of controlling sinking with more elegance. In the next video I'll be showing the next level of sinking practice that builds upon this and so maybe that will help students see the roadmap and big picture of where we are going in this journey of Tai Chi. Thanks for your comment because as you discussed the direction of the movement it helped us to talk about the direction of where this is all going! 🙏
