Seems to me that the best "decolonization" is to stop all aid whatsoever. Let Africa follow its own path solely by its own means.

Seems to me the best decolonization is to let Africans profit from their own natural precious ressources which by the way dwarfs that small humanitarian efforts. Out of that money (trillions), a very small portion go to Africans.

Message is loud and clear. I have always believed in Africans uniting our resources like europe has to give ourselves a bigger voice and stronger negotiating position. The dependency has to end because we do have the resources, we just need to be better organized and agree on a way forward.

13:45 this is true especially in Uganda. Teachers are paid poorly, and studying education is considered something for failures. The teachers themselves spend a few years teaching then go back to study in other fields.

The biggest factor holding Africa back is its politics. Nation after nation of extractive instututions that suppress individuals, deny property rights and have levels of crime that are not sustainable for modern societies. Until this changes Africa will remain impoverished. The reason the west was so succesful was protection indivual rights, free markets and inclusive institutions that encourage individual hardwork that benefits the wider community through motivated self interest. These philosophical developments from the western cannon were critical to the success of the societies that implement them.

That is pretty much the fate of colonized countries. Historically we cannot change the past but borne on us the responsibility to change the narrative in the way forward. Thinking on how to dictate the rules, at the grassroots level, is fundamental for our emancipation (sometimes, making an internal pressure for accountability, particularly against corruption, hence vote with wisdom) for such reason I refer to Prof. Ngugi wa Thi´ongo (who connects us - colonized- beautifully), as we need first intellectual emancipation to rediscover how to be proud of our Nation, as the speaker Michael. Then, reflecting on his words, I am thinking, do colonized countries suffer from low 'self-esteem'?

@@Dimitris_Half how long do you expect Africa to “blame” colonizers? And what exactly are we “blaming” them for? Giving us the rule of law and ability to compete on the global stage? Before the “whities” arrived we were in skins and were scared of the Juju up the mountain. We didn’t need them to enslave Africans because we were perfectly willing to round up our neighboring enemies and get them shipped off. You sound like someone who just hates themselves and your culture and you’re looking to drum up supportive hate from others

@@Dimitris_Half at the end of the day, you should stick to worrying about your own failed state and ill worry about mine thanks. If you want to be bitter towards europeans and blame all of your current failures on them, so be it. But, as someone born in africa, i dont think WE should let the past determine our future. See current day Rwanda if you want an african example that aligns with my thinking.

And so what? Money is still coming in your countries so make the best of it. If EU gives you one millions dollars to develop a high voltage Line between two countries in west Africa then another 100 to develop the grid in your main cities USE IT TO DEVELOP YOUR COUNTRY not to fill the pockets of the officials in charge of the project. The problem is mainly on your side not the donor side.

@bud weiser. It seems as if you didn’t listen to the talk, or didn’t understand what he was saying. These are no ‘altruistic donations’, but economical loans (capitalistic schemes) design to make profitable returns with high interest for the lender that will keep the ones accepting it in debt for ever. There is a lot of information and ‘cancel debt’ campaigns going on around this because of that. Because these loans are meant to keep enriching the provider (IMF, WB) and suppressing and impoverishing the countries accepting that ‘aid’
