On this album Paul didn’t record the bass along with the rest of the rhythm track, instead waiting to overdub it later. This gave him more time to come up with creative bass parts.

I've always regarded Getting Better as one of the highlights on side A of Pepper, primarily for the bass and positive vibe (not dissimilar to the vibe on Derek and the Domino's "Got to Get Better In a Little While"). I saw McCartney in Denver on May 7, 2002,and was thrilled this was in the setlist. That performance ended up on the Back in the U.S. release.

During the 21 March 1967 session , Lennon complained that he did not feel well and could not focus. He had accidentally taken LSD when he meant to take an upper.Unaware of the mistake, Martin took him up to the roof of EMI Studios for some fresh air, and returned to Studio.Where McCartney and Harrison were waiting. They knew why Lennon was not well, and upon hearing where Lennon was, rushed to the roof to retrieve him and prevent a possible accident....Johnny Johnny Johnny!! Miss you So very much!

I noted things like this: The pianet could be playing, for instance, a straight F major chord, but the guitars could be playing (at the same time) an F ninth chord, while the vocals switch between the notes A and G and the bass switches between F and E! And, for me at least, on the old original LP's, it was almost impossible to hear the pianet at all in certain parts. No wonder sounding this stuff out in the old days was so hard for me!!

Fooey Pooh! Also, that's a sitar George is playing in the photo, not a tambura. It would have been taken while recording Within You Without You. Also also, a tamboura is a Baltic instrument - it's different to a tambura, for which the preferred term is actually tanpura. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tambouras

Thanks for the heart...think about this: Lennon even had the genius to spell Beatles with an 'A'/for 'beat'. Maybe history would be different if the band ended up being called The Beetles. Wow. Doesn't even look right, huh? THAT is creative genius from day one. Thanks, John. "Beatles" MUCH better, lol.
@gvgv3515
@gvgv3515 Жыл бұрын
I agree that it was clever, but not a stroke of genius. John as well as the other Beatle members got asked the same question at nearly every interview in their early career. John explained that it was just a play on words. Beat= tempo or timing. It emphasized beat when you read it. That's all. John always loved a good pun, hence beetles became Beatles. He and the band were fans of Buddy Holly and the Crickets. They thought it was cool. Crickets motivated the band to adopt the bug naming ,and chose a beetle....add in John's pun and oila!! The Beatles!!! It was not magic, genius, poetic or any other adjective.In one interview you could tell John was tired of being asked about the Beatles name. He replied "It's just a name, like shoe. To which Paul replied " Yes, we could've been called The Shoes!" without any facial or body expression suggesting he was joking. This how it began to lose its luster being a Beatle....same old questions over and over and over. Why is your hair that style...who combs,cuts, washes your hair. When was the last time you got a haircut? In their minds, "Who the f@#k cares" ask us questions about our music including subject matter, how we create the tunes etc. They rarely got those kinds of questions . In one interview they actually stopped that line of questions and asked the reporters to ask questions pertaining to their musical abilities, creative processes and not about our personal lives. ! Beatlemania never really WAS to the band. It was about the fans ( especially girls) reactions to the Beatles. They were always under the microscope in the media ,either in print,film or audio. The screaming and fainting / hysteria of the girls was great in the beginning said John, but it was the same wherever we went. It got tiring and relentless after a while. The others agreed but the mania was still going strong. When playing on stage at arenas, the guys all said they couldn't hear themselves playing or singing. Paul joked that they'd change the words to their most famous songs ( to something dirty adds John) and nobody knew the difference!! They couldn't evolve as a band because of the screaming girls. The insanity drove the band to the brink. The grinding schedule of appearances was very exhausting for the band. They were offered drugs to keep them going and able to perform. It was the beginning of the drug phase. Eventually they got fed up, and now in a position to put the brakes on Beatlemania. They stopped touring and were now able to focus on their recording in the studio. They would release albums but no concert tours again . They were considering breaking up; a question asked from their early claim to fame. " How long do you think this will last ( you as a group?) . They always said " we don't know month ,maybe years,who really knows ". That was also a question that they hated because in reality how COULD they know and answer such a stupid question. They were always respectful in public under Brian Epstein s guidance, but personally they wanted to say " f- off! The peace they were craving allowed the freedom to try new things recording wise, to create their evolving music. Today,electronic gadgets reproduce the various sound effects like echo, reverb, chorus, flange,wah wah, tremolo, pitch change, octave division, reverse gates and more. All of the above were created by creative capabilities of the studio engineers. Nothing was too silly for an idea. Putting a microphone in a cardboard tube creates a hollow tube sort of sound. Removing all sound absorbing material creates a reverberating sound such as in a church or gymn . The Beatles were among the first to use non musical devices to achieve percussion sounds. They used an empty suitcase for a kick drum sound, a coffee can filled with dry beans as a shaker. The change to studio recording only gave such sounds the possibility to exist in not only their music but for other artists as well.

I hear breathing during the bass section....? A lot of "line" noise in the guitar section. That's okay, it shows the Beatles' mere human side. And those vocals and backing vocals - John, Paul and George were working hard on this. I always liked the electric piano on this. It wasn't until I got the marble vinyl pressing in the late 1970s when I could finally hear it.

Maybe they were still using a speaker as a mic on the bass? It almost sounds like he had an effect like a slow muted flanger or MuTron. I doubt those things were invented yet in 1966. I believe John Lenmon invented the word flanger.

The people making these types of videos are using computer software to single out the individual musical parts. and then, they re-compile them on Garage Band or Pro Trolls or Logic or whatever.... The football crowd "haaaaaaaaaaaa" that you are hearing in the background is actually the sound of the computer not being able to get rid of the other parts while trying to isolate the main part. This is an after-market process using software, as opposed to going back to the original Tapes, and separately recording the individual raw secionts
