The eagle on the nest is fully able to take care of itself. The mate bird is usually around to protect the chicks, not the adult, so it's being away isn't unusual or that big a deal. Eagles are evolved to both attack and defend themselves. What's key here is the owl. Owls are rotten SOBs, much smarter than the basic eagle, and part of their MO is to let prey know they're around. He owl knows the deal here and will attempt to knock the eagle out. Once done it'll move in and kill the chicks. Owls don't like to carry their killed prey and will leave it, especially when it's cold outside, tearing the victims head off (and taking it back home for a snack) then returning several times to either eat in place or take it back as well. Eagles prefer to avoid owls, but will attack them. Owls prefer to eat larger chicks, and will even continue dissection their heads while under attacks from the parents. Super focused.

She’ll be fine. Owls harass eagles at night. It’s just what they do. But so long as one of the parents stays at the nest, no harm should come, and if they catch one of those owls out during the day, it might be a bad day for that owl.

Owls are nocturnal, they see far better in the dark than in daylight. They do most of their hunting at night. Eagles, being diurnal, have eyes that see well in daylight but do not see much better than humans in the dark.

Owls were given the nickname "silent hunters" cause no human or animal can hear them fly. That's why dad was unable to help mom fight off the owl. Birds really do gotta sleep with one eye open at night when they got chicks. Don't be so judgmental without knowing facts first.

This is my second season watching the eagles and it's disappointing to see that the anthropomorphic cat hair covered shut-ins are back in force. This is nature! It is beautiful, but it is also cruel! The GHO is trying to survive as well, so that it can propagate its species. Eagles drive owls from their nests too. It is what raptors do. Raptor siblings also bonk each other in competition for food many times leading to the death of the weaker one. Adult eagles and owls will also eat the remains of the deceased. It is nature and people applying human traits to these creatures are living in a world of fairy dust and unicorns. Furthermore, this nest happens to be the Ritz-Carlton of nests, so those decrying the plight of this mother eagle don't know what they are talking about. This nest is located next to a fishery, so as soon as the ice melts the eagles have access to a 24/7 buffet just across the road. This nest has it easy compared to other nests. I wish that people would grow up and appreciate nature for what it is. SMH....

This is true Rufus..and been very harsh this winter ALL the animals are hungry..they also doing things they would not normally do...not the owls...owls are owls this is what they do...I just don't know why she making those pitiful sounds instead of raising the alarm for her male???

@rufusbarnabus44905 жыл бұрын
@St 1111 - Sorry to trigger you, my little SJW. The word is "anthropomorphic." Look it up because it is obvious that you don't know what it means. Empathic means the psychological identification with the feelings, thoughts, and attitudes of others. Raptors don't have the same thoughts that we do. Theirs consist of survival and propagation of the species. That's it. So you see that despite your vitriolic spasms you are dead wrong. You are a whiny moron to boot.
