Decorah North Eagles ~ DN17 & DN18 Claim & Eat Prey Successfully On A Branch! 👍😋 6.18.24

The video opens with a beautiful sunrise and DN17 & DN18 both on the ground playing! They later are seen perched on the nest tree branch when DNF flies in with a squirrel! She lands right between the kids - DN17 is on Mom's right & DN18 Is on the left. They are squeeing up a storm as Mom starts to eat. The dynamics of not having a nest to rush across and claim the prey upon landing forces a different game plan. After a few minutes of temptation watching DNF eating, DN18 inches closer on the branch and steals the prey! WTG DN18! 👍 Mom will fly off and DN18 will successfully eat the squirrel while on the branch! Well done! After eating, DN18 flies off.
Mr North will fly in with a fish and DN17 is right there to claim it on the branch! Another successful eating of food on a branch this time by DN17! WE can see DN17 wolf down the fish and swallow the tail! Con appetit! The fledglings are really getting a crash course on adult eagles eat on a branch. The other important skill they will need to learn is to prevent their prey from being stolen while on the branch as eagles are always opportunistic hunters looking to score a meal any way possible. But for now, they practice on balancing and eating on the branch! Thank you for watching!

Yesterday, I could feel heartbreak ❤️‍🩹 in your post for a nest I knew very little about. In your post I felt pain and felt your pain…the reality of live nests and wildlife in real time. For this post, one of the Decorah nests that was Eagle Life 101 for me, I have learned more about the life of eagles than all the other nests. I’m grateful these 2 were not injured when their nest collapsed and now watching fledged eaglets adapt to survival in a beautiful way! Thank you as always!

Lady Hawk, Is it safe to say that no team is going to provide the 🦅 family with another nest? Is not having a nest causing stress for the Juveniles? Is having to spend a lot of time on the ground placing the 🦅 at risk? Is trying to adapt to having no nest to eat in a risk factor in the Juveniles possibly not getting enough food to eat that could cause them to become Malnourished? I get that food is being delivered, but, are both Juveniles eating enough to keep them well nourished so that they won't end up sick and die from Malnourishment?

What happened to their nest? It´s destroyed...
