The Decorah North nest side of the tree had been slowly dying for years and recently the nest was seen tilting to the right. There was heavy rain this morning with DN17 & DN18 perched in the nest and nest branches. Around 8:30am, the nest branch broke with a loud noise and the nest collapsed. DN17 flew off to a nearby tree and DN18 was flapping and was trying to fly off but went downward.
Both Mr North and DNF were seen perched in a tree nearby. DN17 was seen safe in the tree! DN18 was seen on a branch on the ground flapping and hopping around. DN18 then flew but was too low and ended up in the pasture grass. DN18 walked back towards the downed branch and went out of view.
DN18 later flew across the pasture and made it up the roots of a dead tree. DNF flew in with some food for DN18 who ate on a branch! DNF then perched with DN18! What awesome parents the North's are! Thank you for watching!
