Keep the wire on the paddle so you can unwind it as you go around and it won't get tangled. Only cut the wire when you're finished.

The best part of a Danish Christmas is lunch on the 25th. Cold table - danish food from fish to cheese where you make your own open faced sandwiches washed down with lots of danish beer and snaps. Our family immigrated to Canada from Denmark 80 years ago and the current generation doesn't celebrate Danish Christmas - which is unfortunate! Your vlog inspired me to make a batch of frikadeller! Happy New Year!

Congrats to the young adults and the rest for making those very artistic cake decorations, and inviting the neighbours. Wow!! That is special and the cakes were beautiful!. It's always interesting to me to see what we inherited from the rest of the world in South Africa with all the mix European backgrounds. Where did America get the stocking habit from? We also did the stockings when I was small. We did not do the tree thing, Interesting the Risengrrrrr....? Forgot the spelling. We do "melkkos" - directly translated "Milk food", but again not at christmas but also a mid winter delicatessen. We make it with all your ingredients but instead of rice we use flour, and we make little worms with the flour and cook them in water till done and add them in the butter, cinamon mixture, like your recipe, a mild custard kind of soup with flour worms in. Very delicious. So interesting to see where we inherited our traditions from. So many things changed when everything became commercialised. I miss the old special family traditions. And of course here the focus was on going to church and celebrating Jesus's birthday. Therefore we only did the carol singing and the stocking on Christmas morning before church. Sad to see that the actual western Christmas traditions got lost which actually went around giving, especially to the poor. That was an interesting discovery to me. As far as I know did the "giving" tradition start in the Scandinavian countries? They made year round presents in their homes, especially during the winter months to give to the poor? I wonder if I'm correct?
@BoSAChristensen7 ай бұрын
Hi, it’s spelled; Risengrød. I don’t know about that giving tradition you mention, but maybe some people do that in one of the other Scandinavian countries. Merry Christmas and happy new year! Bo
@queensescape7 ай бұрын
How interesting about the version of ‘soup’ your family makes with the dough ‘worms.’ That sounds utterly delicious. I’ve read the history of stockings before… Can’t pull it up from the depths of my brain, but I recall many nationalities putting out boots and shoes to receive gifts from Father Christmas. I’d wager it comes from that. The family didn’t know I’d made them all stockings, so that was a surprise. But as the Danes celebrate in the 24th and Americans in the 25th, Delaney and I (Karen) did stockings and American Christmas breakfast as well as a turkey dinner in the afternoon. 😊

What a lovely video. Gosh, you all worked so hard. It is great to make things yourself! I have been knitting 55 Norwegian Christmas balls. It took an age! I finished knitting a Norwegian Christmas stocking as well. I did like your gorgeous wreaths! The heatgun/gluegun is a really good idea, plus it is time efficient. I think that board for the center piece needs to be stained or painted a dark red.
@queensescape7 ай бұрын
I think you’re right. My reference image had a lightly white ‘stained’ board with white stained circular wood placemats under all the plates. We could not find / make the wooden place mats, so in the end I didn’t have to match the long board to any other wood, but it had got late and I’d had the flu so it ended up being natural. I like your idea. 💡❤️
