My personal rules for styling surfaces: 1. At least 50% of every flat surface (including walls and shelves) must be bare; 2. Every item must be functional as well as beautiful; and 3. Nothing smaller than a cantaloupe. This won't hold for everyone of course, but it works for me because I'm going for a clean simple minimalist vibe.

I know. Where I live in Canada it would be so rude to wear your outdoor shoes into someone’s house. Even if you’re at a party in a dress you leave your heels by the door. But when I visited relatives in the UK they wore their outdoor shoes inside peoples houses all the time. Maybe it’s a regional thing.

I just painted a spare bedroom (quite normally a dark room) with Swiss Coffee. I thought I would be in love with it...but no. It feels stark even though the room is still dark. Change of plans for the two other bedrooms (one naturally very dark and the other gets a lot of light).
@pumibel17203 жыл бұрын
@@LS-sg8rb I used the Valspar SC. It is softer and slightly warmer than a bright white, but it doesn't read as an off white in the brighter areas. Yes I also agree on the entryway rug. I don't have one because I have a doormat. I don't want a rug to trip on when I come in, and also my door opens too close to the floor for one; it would just get stuck haha. Plus, we take off our shoes so I'm not tracking anything through my house anyways. 🤷🏼♀️

I also agree. I'm moving into a Senior apartment, use a walker, and am recovering from a recent fall. Don't need a rug to trip over when coming in. I just ordered new shoes and a storage bench for the entry. Going to sit and change into my clean shoes as soon as I come in.

Arvin, I know you're not big on traditional décor, but using the same fabric for upholstery, walls, and drapery is a classic style (called fabrics en suite) utilized by design legends like Billy Baldwin, Henri Samuel, and Mario Buatta, and more recently by neo-trads like Aerin Lauder and Tory Burch. And to call that Daniel Romualdez bedroom done up in Braquenié iconic Tree of Life fabric (used by Hubert de Givenchy, Mark Sikes, Carolyne Roehm, etc.) a "mistake" is......a choice. But, yes, cheap, off-the-shelf fabric valences matched to table runners, pillows, etc., is a pretty sad look.
