The "Historic Harvard" website states that the house originally had 600 acres and now has only 4.35! They didn't have "dairy" farms in the 17th and 18th centuries; the two barns probably housed some cows but more sheep than anything as well as horses and oxen.

Thanks for all the info. You're right about dairy farms because my gret grandpa came over from the Netherlands in the late 1800's early 1900's and to take care of the new thing ... cows!
