Along time ago I remember posting pictures of my home on Facebook in a primitive group and some ladies were harsh saying it wasn’t primitive because of my white walls. (This was before white everything came into style) so I painted my dining room a yellow mustard color and it was a hit! People loved it… but I didn’t! It felt dark like I lived in a cave. I swear it was starting to depress me!! So I went back to what made me happy!! That’s when I realized that you have to stay authentic to you! Not styles. I also want to add you look beautiful in this video and so is your room! Way better than the red to me!! 🥰

Thanks for sharing your feelings and thoughts. That is not easy. It is one thing to feel and think, it is another thing to write it down and talk about it. We don't always have the luxury of shopping for things we LIKE. You are lucky to have that privilege in this time of your life. I love how you decorated !!! Someone asked me in recent years, What do YOU like? Nobody had ever asked me that about the yard, because I had never had to think about it - that wasn't my thing. But since she asked, I thought about it and came up with some good ideas. For one, if you live in the city, plant things on a hill, and leave the flat spaces for picnic tables and badminton. Plant shade trees on the south side and evergreens on the north side. The bare trees in winter give sun for warmth and the leaves give shade in the summer. The evergreens on the north are a windbreak. And plant English boxwood, of course. .

Thank you for the video Anne! The new sitting room looks great and still carries through the 18th C vibe, with your own personal touches adding to the charm! With the changes in color and decor, you have really lowered the energy level to a visually more relaxing space...it's great! This is a balance we struggle with at times in our 1727 Saltbox...brighter versus more muted (but still classic Colonial) colors....adding too much decor to a room which probably would not have been done in 18th C New England? But, collecting antiques and reproductions is really enjoyable! At the moment, I've just got to have a Red Fox (we see them on our property, attracted to the chickens) pelt hanging in our Tavern room. At the end of the day it's all about balance; and, we should evolve to what makes us most comfortable and happy! So glad you did that, thoughtful & inspiring!

We had an 1850s log cabin adapted for our living space. The builder was a collector of early American antiques and was insistent that we needed to decorate our cabin with authentic, time period pieces. I became caught up in his enthusiasm and began to feel that my mix of family antiques from the Victorian era were not quite up to snuff. Well, years have passed, and now I mix my decorating up with pieces l love, that mean something to me. And there are some new and old early American items. (Think David T Smith meets Old Sturbridge Village meets Victorian oak) All very eclectic, cozy, comfortable, and way outside the “rules”. Our home is an extension of our memories, our interests, and our personal creativity. No apologies to anyone.Thank you for your wonderful videos!

Well Anne, I sit here in my living room where all the trim {including an 1830 fireplace and overboard} is painted Cromwell Grey and the walls are Dunmore Cream from Ben Moore Historical Colors. Soooo, of course I love the new color palette you have chosen. Last spring I took an old cutting board and hung it over the fireplace with some painted country tin hung on it and painted country tin on the mantle. My daughter-in-law said to me "Mom I am not feeling the bread board over the mantle." I smiled, did not take offence and said, "You don't have to, I need to." That painted country tin shows beautifully on the grey and every time I see the collection displayed it reminds me of my dear sweet painting teacher who did most of it. Makes my heart sing and sing. Also, I want to add something I have tried to pass on to friends and family over the years about "how to" decorate...when deciding what colors or pieces you want to bring to your home, if you "let" yourself "pick" the piece that's been "waiting" for you, that's the item you should have.. sounds sort of "whoo whoo" 😂, I know, but simply put, if you are drawn to something, or if your eye "catches" something, if you can say "but I just love this!" that's the perfect pick for you... people worry too much if something is the right color, the right shape, the right "style" for there house, but I have found if you fill your home with things that you just simply LOVE you will have the home you 💕...We are all rather "eclectic" in our choices at times ..."country", "cottage", "vintage", "farmhouse", oh my, even "Victorian" one lady, but you can "blend" items from all those different themes to a very cohesive and comfortable home as you are surrounding yourself with all the elements of each design that you love, being "comfy and cozy" in our homes, and the best of all, welcoming your family and friends into that home as well...a home should be "lived in"... comfortable to all who enter...in the end, the rest is"just things"...sorry Anne, if I have intruded overly in your thoughts and ideas, but you really do make me think of how I have lived before and how I live now, truly inspiring ❤ Thank you, again
