Great video Jon! Really cool watching those dogs work. Really cool hearing the coyotes respond back to the call too, love it!

Here we go again "color phase" lol just kidding.. I don't know if you have ever heard of him but "John Henry" of coyote gods fame use to use Airedales as decoy dogs and had some real good video of them working coyotes. This has been years ago.. Anyway I was watching one of his videos and wondered why couldn't you call and actually have a dog that could run down and catch the coyote. Thats really how I got started in sight hounds and video really.. I started doing it on horse back out here with some big ole "wolf dogs" .. we have miles and miles of semi open country with hardly any fences.. I would get on horseback and ride and set up stands with my dogs on the stand with me. We got pretty successful and I had guys ask me to video how I did it. So I asked my wife to get me a video camera so I could video how I did it and if you watch my video "Last Hunt of the Year" that was the result..

Do you guys ever worry about your decoy dogs getting killed? Has this happened yet? I have watched a few videos from other hunters and the dogs seem to know what they are doing, but a couple times the dogs took off out of sight with several coyotes and that's when I would get nervous for my dog.

That's crazy how the coyote kept coming out in the field. Did the coyote think the dogs were attacking a pup ?

If that don't make you just grin like a possum with a mouth full of wasps, you ain't appreciating predator management. Those decoy dogs are something else.

looked like a hybrid to me. husky/coyote?

Most Likely...the color variation wasnt the 'only' variation...The build was All Domestic Dog. With the ever increasing population and Developers buying up all the Natural habitat...Coyotes are living among us all from city to country. And with that comes interbreeding which changes the appearance and eventually the Species itself. It wont be long until Wolves, Coyotes and Dogs will all be Hybrid species.

There's a number of options available for potential dog breeds mixed in, but definitely a coydog in this case. The pattern alone mostly could suggest that the animal was probably part ACD or something. At least some breed that had the black and tan coat coloration. Which of course huskies normally do not unless the huskies themselves are mixed breeds. Where as Australian Cattle Dogs (which the coydog very much resembled due to how it looked, especially the ears and facial features) are known to come in black and tan, albeit not as common as blue and red merle, but still available as a color option and definitely not too rare either.

Lol no. It's coyote fur color. Wolves are different colors as well as poodles and labs.

Not a hybrid/coydog just a color phase variation.

Nice video. It's good to knock off those predators. In NY, the dogs will run them down and kill them. They set up a blind, call them in and when the coyote is close enough, they show the dogs the coyote and let them go. Sometimes quite a chase too.
@johntate96477 жыл бұрын
When they are a nuisance because every female drops another littler every 6 months, you have no idea how overpopulated they can become. A pack of over 30 killed a horse near my farm. When they're feeding puppies, they'll go into a barn and take a cat or a dog. If you don't understand, stay in your city condo and watch from your PC.
