Decreasing Motorcycle U Turns
The most feared motorcycle maneuver seems to be U-Turns.
Here is a simple U turn practice pattern to use, when space is limited.
Just set up three different sizes and continue until you can complete each one.
This can be set up with very little cones or just use chalk to mark your measurements.
Enjoy

That's great. it easier in a lot with lines. We do it often because we don't have to keep setting up a new u-turn. Thanks for watching and have fun.

Hey Chris Thanks for the kind words. The best advice I could give is...Just get started. Find a small lot and start with large circles (30 feet or more). Then as you get better make them tighter. We try to get in at least 2 practices a week, even if its only for a half hour. And of course turn your head and look where you want to go. Thanks again for your support and comments.

Really great video. I keep thinking too hard about this 18' I think. I don't think I'm going fast enough. I can do 20' sometimes but it's not comfortable. Is it really just head and eyes?
@BootsandJeansRiders
@BootsandJeansRiders 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Brent, Hey don't over think it just do it. Yes it is just head and eyes,alone with friction zone and little rear brake pressure. Remember, the tighter the turn the more you will need to lean the bike. to learn your lean angle, start with a large circle and gradually decrease the circle until you scrape the pegs. Then lean no further.
@Oaklandish70
@Oaklandish70 4 жыл бұрын
Can you please explain 1) friction zone and 2)front/rear breaking when performing u-turns? Thanks!
@BootsandJeansRiders
@BootsandJeansRiders 4 жыл бұрын
Sure Ebony...Great Questions The friction zone is when you slowly began to release the clutch and the bike start to move , giving power to the rear wheel. As long as you don't fully release the clutch...you are in the friction zone and you can (with practice) continue to give throttle and your speed will not increase. As for braking...Great Question... During the turn any braking will make the bike want to stand up. However, the rear brake slows down the bike but not as much as the front brake. Also when using the rear brake, the front of the bike /forks won't dip as much therefore eliminating a forced pull down, causing a bike drop. Yes you can use the rear brake through out the turn and it won't have a major affect on the turn (depending on how tight you are tuning) I use the rear brake to slow down the bike, once I start the turn, I release the brake and rely on the friction zone and throttle to control the speed. However in tighter turns...I use the rear brake though the completion of the turn, but not in all cases. Hope that answers your questions.

@@BootsandJeansRiders your video is very helpful in that you give it from the riders point of view. I’ve had trouble on U-turns for two main reasons I think. First I notice you turn your head and eyes. That is probably my biggest problem. Second, I have fear of dropping the bike on a small U-turn. I really don’t think it will drop, but it’s just the fear that it won’t drop that is my problem.
