you listen carefully, that's about all there is to it. a good way to tell if there's layering is if it sounds like the screams are more than one pitch at once; one layer the scream would just be one pitch, but if there's different pitches usually each one is a separate layer.

This song is amazing in every way except for the lyrics. I was listening to the playthrough for the past few months and thought I'd check the original. Even for death metal lyrics, they don't make any sense. Coming from 'new millenium cyanide christ' and 'born in winter', these lyrics really put me off. I could probably get used to the vocal style, but this is just not my cup of tea.

Don't like the layering on the vocals, at all. No problem with Bill as a vocalist whatsoever, but his harsh, raw, guttural voice layered (overdubbed with himself?) with effects just isn't sitting well with me on this album so far. Especially since it clashes so much with how clear the rest of the music is. Maybe it'll grow on me over the course of the whole album.

Well that was strange. But, why the "lyrics video" layout? All these lyrics videos need to cease. Pointless. You can't read what is said properly flashed across a screen in a split second in an odd font anyhow, never mind try and decipher what the guy is waffling. If you're going to have lyrics for these things they need to be clear, and slow-scrolling. Unless the objective is to make it intentionally extra-hard to understand what is being output in the noise, then you are succeeding well.
