The resolute selflessness, the walking epitome of duty, the stoic and unwavering dedication to the people, the allegiance to a purpose of uniting a nation rather than dividing it, the backbone of our country, the unrelenting bravery in the face of adversity after adversity. You were the revered sovereign, woman and icon. May you truly rest in peace, your Majesty, the impact of your reign will endure for eternity.

...and today, the new King is being proclaimed all over the world, from small islands to large nations such as Australia and Canada. I have just watched the Canadian ceremony, in English and French, with gun salutes pounding in the background. In every parish church in England there are tributes: candles burning and muffled peals rung on the bells. The Roman Catholic churches too are saying Mass tomorrow for the Queen. No Empire in history, surely, ever had such a legacy. God save our sovereign Lord, King and Governor.

We have had many fine monarchs in our long and storied history, very few have been truly great, other than Alfred, Athelstan, and Elizabeth I and now we can add Elizabeth II to that rather exclusive club; she was the epitome of service, restraint, wisdom and grace, and in her passing we can see how small and venal the politicians we have truly are.

During our history of a thousand years and more, we have had a predominance of Kings but only a comparative handful of Queens Regnant. We Britons have been fortunate in our history to have had some notable Queens, Queen Elizabeth l was a great Queen for this country when viewed within the context of life in the 16th century, Queen Victoria also reigned for a long time and saw this nation forge a lead to become the greatest nation on Earth - she too was a great Queen. We in 21st century Britain are lucky to be blessed with the hindsight to look back across the centuries, and can say without argument that Queen Elizabeth ll has been the greatest Queen of all. Indeed, she is probably THE greatest British monarch of them all. It remains to be seen whether she will ever have an equal.
@hengistbury2 жыл бұрын
I doubt there will ever be an equal. A magnificent queen, the like of which we will never see again. The future heirs will be males, so we will not see another queen for a very long time. HM Queen Elizabeth II kept her promise to the end, and never faltered in her 75 years on the throne.

A truly remarkable woman with the responsibilities of being a Queen. I will always admire, respect and thank her for being such a wonderful role model. I wish I'd recognize this before she left us. But, I believe with her guidance of being a world leader, King Charles will be the excellent monarch he is meant to be. It is my hope that, with his demonstrated capabilities of transition, he will present ideas that are new and thoughtful. Because of the Queen Consort's support for him, I can see why Queen Elizabeth named her. Perhaps King Charles can lead their country into a new era? To me, he can be, and I truly believe will be. RIP Elizabeth for your duty, and let the world believe there are still great love stones.

She was my Queen, she was and is all I had ever known, and now she is gone. And now we enter an age where 3 Kings are guaranteed, Charles 3, William 5th, George 7th. I suppose the proudest moment for me was when King Charles the 3rd and Queen consort Camilla stepped from their car after the Queens was deceased and went to greet the assembled crowd outside Buckingham Palace, and shared their grief and emotions and congratulations on Charles becoming King, a step which no royal before them had ever taken, such a gigantic step forward for the monarchy and one which I wonder if we'll ever see again. The King has come of age and I hope he can lead us well. Long live the King.

I truly fear for the future of our monarchy now that wonderful lady has sadly departed. Not a foot wrong in 70 years of duty to all of us and the nation. OK, Phillip made the odd gaffe. Look at what we now have. A king who meddles in politics with a dodgy history. A Prince of Wales who panders to popular culture. If only Princess Anne had been born first we would be in safer hands.
