At least she's got her act together. My partner lost his job of ten years at the end of furlough, he spent 3 months on benefits before he got another job. Btw, benefits are no easy ride for someone mid 50's, they were b'stards, but provided NO help. He was busy looking for work everyday, even Sunday's, they're calling him into the office to make him feel like shit, meanwhile, the useless idiots only wanted to ridicule him, when he could have been at home applying for jobs. He informed them several times he had work, yet they were still calling him in, phoning him at work, money had stopped but they still harassed him at bloody work.

Yes they made my disabled son go self employed as a sole trader....it was a disaster and then HE got presented with £4000 demand to pay back tax credits. Lucky he has support...some DON'T. The UK is a shitpit

I can relate to this so much as my dad is in the same boat as your partner. He has worked all his life. I’ve never known him out of work and thanks to Covid. It became the catalyst for my dad being made redundant after being furloughed and he does everything that universal credit and the job centre require him to do. He spends hours each day looking for jobs but to no avail. He’s 55 and suffers with epilepsy too so job searching is harder than ever in my hometown as all they seem to be offering are driving jobs. He tells the people down the job centre this but they aren’t bothered. Just a load of ignorant pen pushers who think that people on benefits are scroungers and lowlifes. They don’t care at all

"Benefits street" a program Made at Channel 4, by the New Labour Middle classes. A program that ridiculed and pointed the finger at a certain demographic. Poor, uneducated people, many of whom have mental health problems. What they failed to show was the Working people of James Turner street. I'm sure they enjoyed watching this at their dinner parties in Islington Dee seems to be a decent person, who maybe didn't have the best starts in life, In the program I never saw her turn anyone away, who needed help. These New Middle classes could learn from that!

If your definition of a scrounger is a person on benefits let's hope you never have to claim benefits yourself. There are many people on benefits who are working because they are working in minimum wage jobs. Even the middle class income earners are struggling due to the cost of living crisis and having to claim benefits in one form or another.
