Dee speaks of Clive Burr and in my opinion, that man was a very underrated drummer. I love Nikko and I knew of Nikko’s drumming from The Pat Travers Band before Aldridge went in, but Burr was a man who left us too soon. He had some very creative drumming in IM. Though he suffered much with MS, I’m pray he’s at rest now.

I think Dee hits the nail right on the head in regards to Clive Burr. Clive wasn’t your usual Metal drummer. You could go back a little further. I am sure if you listen to recorded stuff before Clive joined you will hear a massive difference

Yeah, I love the song " burning ambition" from 1979, but the drummer on there is awful. His timing is a little off, and the fill-ins are terrible. The guy has no groove. Soundhouse Tapes drummer is horrible too, I think it's the same guy. Strange World early 1978 version, shows how bad he really is. I liked Nicko when he first joined, but lately, since 2003ish, I'm noticing slight timing issues on live recordings

@@dawnpatrol700 It is the same guy on both TSHT and BA. Doug Sampson. Nicko is a fantastic drummer. But even seeing Maiden live in recent years I have noticed his drumming being a little off in places. But, give the guy his due. He isn’t getting any younger, and he did have a stroke recently.

I've always found - as a drummer, playing along with Maiden tracks - that I have to pay more attention to Nicko. I have to learn his parts. But with Clive, I just...play it. You could argue that's because Nicko's the more technical player so he's more challenging to emulate. You could suggest my natural playing style is more like Clive's so he's easier for me to emulate. But it *feels* like it's because Clive's parts were just part of the tune. Like you can sing the guitar or vocal parts back - Clive's drums were like the percussion version of that.

They drew in a crowd on par with the biggest headliners (like Maiden, Metallica, Ozzy, etc.). It has to undoudedtly rank as one of the top 5 worst concerts I have ever seen. Every song sounded similar, just not as catchy as their big hits. When he got to "We aint gonna take it", he drew it out for 15 minutes. I have never seen a concert haemorrhage audience members like this. By the time we left, maybe 3/4 of the way through (and we only stayed because at this stage we were laughing our ass off), there was a bottleneck traffic jam of people trying to escape. So yeah... the 45 minute thing does not surprise me one bit.
