Let's not forget last year when Maiden came out with their Future Past tour, and people were noticing Nicko'd simplified his drum fills on a number of songs. People wrote it off as him being in his seventies. Then, he comes out and apologizes for not being 100% because he'd had a frickin' STROKE several months earlier, recuperated a good bit, and then went back out on tour.

My favourite Maiden song of all time is Powerslave (especially played live) and they’ve written many great songs since, but this features a lot of what I love about Powerslave, epic with a whole bunch of guitar solos in the middle. I saw them on this tour an they played both of these songs in that set which was just ridiculously good 😊 Epic song (and to answer a question in the video, it was played mid-set)

I find during the modern Iron Maiden era some parts of longer songs sometimes bore me but this song is solid the whole way through. And that is not an indictment of this era because I love some of the music since the 90s and 2000s as much as I do their 80 era material. This song is creeping up that list because I only started paying attention to it about 2 months ago

I'm sure its been mentioned elsewhere, but this is from 2017 and it was not the last song of the night. If memory serves it was the 5th song of a 17 song set. That was played at least 3-4 times a week on this tour. When the album this song was on came out, my son and I liked this song but couldn't figure out why they didn't shave 4-5 minutes off it and sing it an octave lower. Then we saw them play it live on this tour. And then we realized why.

Adrian is my favorite guitarist in Maiden, and one of my favorite guitarists in metal. Davey and Janick are both great too, but their styles are more one-dimensional. Adrian is a prolific songwriter in his own right and his compositions are always well-thought out and precisely executed. He's a stickler for guitar tone and tempo, and always manages to bring something unique to the table, whether it's songs in odd time signatures or tunings, the use of a wah pedal or other guitar effects, the inclusion of acoustic guitars, etc. He's definitely the secret weapon of Maiden. The band was never the same while he was gone. Had he not returned along with Bruce in 1999, the reunion wouldn't have been nearly as successful.

Yeah, I think some of his prancing and skipping around onstage is cringeworthy as hell, but he's having fun and brings energy to the show. He's also a damn good songwriter, an excellent acoustic player and, by all accounts, a helluva nice guy.

Adrian was always my favorite Maiden guitarist, although I have lots of respect and love for Davey and Janick. All three are so incredible and different styles of play. But Adrian to me was always just so fluid and melodic with his solo's. His work on the Somewhere in Time album is phenomenal.

Can I recommend Alice Cooper's 1972 song 'Billion Dollar Babies" to you? The studio track features Alice and Donovan (yes, THAT Donovan) on vocals and the beat is, well, you have to hear it. I've never heard another rock song's rhythm sound quite like it. Another great classic Alice track for drums is 1971'2 "Halo Of Flies", a cinematic song with lots of changes.

Adrian Smith is the guitsrist you asked about, hes probably.my fsvorite out of the 4 guitsrist maiden have had in their time (Dennis Strutton is the only one not currently playing with the band) his notes in his meldoies are very distint and clewr as opposed to Dave and Yannick who have a more fluid style where the notes sometimes blend together, they are sll equally amazing and esch has their own style which i think really helps the band when exploring their sound as they have done a little bit on their last two albums

actually in jan 23 he had a stroke, left his rt side paralyzed. therapy. may rehearsals. tour said was only 70% recovered. later 90%.

It's absolutely remarkable how he was able to rehabilitate and recover in time for the start of their tour. A lot of people were commenting online during the first few shows about how something seemed off with Nicko's playing, and I kept saying, "Um, you DO realize he's 70, right? Everyone slows down eventually....he's fine, just aging." Well, it turns out that I was 100% wrong. Nicko had to simplify some drum parts to account for the after-effects of his stroke. He said he gradually improved all summer, but his fingertips were still not 100% so some of his speed and dexterity was still off. What a legend! I cannot imagine suffering a stroke at his age and still being determined to go out on a world tour only months later. I'd have been scared to death.

i have gone through therapy, just for a knee. but it is not easy. nicko must have worked like a demon to be able to even walk much less be an iron maiden drummer and do a tour. he also drummed at his annual rock n ribs party in dec.@@keefriff99

I have been a fan of Iron Maiden since 1981 or so, and my first Maiden show ever was on this tour in New York City. They were killer. I saw them again in 2022 when they returned to NYC. I flew up from Florida just for two concerts: Iron Maiden with Within Temptation and Judas Priest with Queensryche. Back to back shows in the NYC area. Everything was awesome.

That sounds awesome. I've been a fan since around 1986. I saw Maiden twice. In 1991 when they toured with Anthrax and then again in 2013 when they played with Megadeth. Both incredible shows. The 2013 show took the cake though since they were playing a lot of stuff from Seventh Son.

This is probably my most favorite song from modern Maiden. It's just epic. With a run time of what? 14, 15 minutes, with those awesome guitar solo and harmony bits, what more could you ask for. Well, actually, for Bruce to hush up for a moment when the guitars are singing. I feel that during that first guitar solo part, he should have just let them sing, instead of butt in like he did. I feel that's a badly written part of the song. But with that said, I often recommend this song and video to new Maiden fans. This came off their 2015 album "Book of Souls" btw. So it is fairly new. As they've only released one album since. 2015 was also the year they went back and truly remastered all of their albums. It was an extensive project, because they had to go back into the British Music Vaults and recover and restore the original analog audio tapes, and then digitize them to then work on the remastering process which did not go down the loudness war trap from the 90s. All of the quieter and louder parts were kept intact with these remasterings, so the loud parts came in strong like they were supposed to.

I saw that tour in Mansfield Mass and it was awesome . Bruce ran around the whole show in a sweatshirt and khakis . It was 90 percent humidity and 75 degrees that night . I was soaked just watching 🤘🤘 Maiden rules

I don’t even know any of these new sort of over epic Iron Maiden songs. But Steve Harris is one of the greatest bassists in metal, that original thumpy gallop. You need to do some older maiden. This stuff is so over epic and overguitar sounding it’s like rock opera stuff. You need to put on some of the old stuff where they jammed. Do a review of the original Killers live on Maiden Japan or even something like To Tame a Land off of Piece of Mind. Id paypal one but Im too worried about getting you properly turned on to Michel Langevin and my next Paypal, will be Les Binks one of the most unknown underrated drummers in metal history. Also I wish Bruce would shut the F up when the band is jamming. All the whoao ohhh ohhh ohh stuff is maddening

The "other guitar player" is Janick Gers. He has been with the band for more than thirty years...albums and live shows.

And he solos as well, not just rhythm. He replaced Smith for a time (though he's irreplacable) and when Smith came back, Gers stayed and Maiden became a triple guitar attack band.

I was hoping to learn something new about Nicko's playing, which I've been following for 40 years. Not only did I learn nothing, but there was nothing about his playing. I want my 17 minutes back.
