This is One of the most vulnerable, honest podcasts I've listened to regarding mental illness. I work in an outpatient mental health facility helping clients stay compliant. This podcast also reached me on a personal level. Thank you for having this conversation and help remove the negative stigma off mental illnesses.

The problem is in the Black American “community” we look down on AND criticize those who are struggling with mental stuff as weak and/or soft. And therefore those people get demonized and pushed to the soft.

Thank you for speaking on this topic. Over the past few years, I have been hearing person after person share that they have contemplated suicide at some point in their lives. I was really surprised by it because we all (or most) think we are the only ones dealing with mental health and/or other life struggles; it's so hard to see a situation clearly and rationally when one is deep in negative emotions. We can literally become (temporarily) "blinded" in sight and thought. Now I understand why it is so important to keep our focus and mind upon Christ Jesus/the Word or we will surely begin sinking like Peter. I will definitely keep praying for all those affected by mental, emotional, physical and other challenges/disorders 🙏

Thank you for spotlighting mental health and the challenges we all as humans struggle with. I am not sure of you will see this comment are not? As a MH advocate and specialist there are a few things I noticed. We must be careful in our approach with this topic. I love the segment on your personal lived experiences. You are an expert in your own journey, thank you for your transparency. It is also very impressive to have Better Help as a sponsors, that's an awesome resource. Unfortunately there are some generalization you made that would have been cleared up if you had a guest Mental Health professional on your podcast with you. 1.) Its important to know we as community members do not diagnose illnesses we can notice the signs and systems but not outright lable people. That perpetuates stigma. Stigma cause shame, and shame causes needless silence. The media does enough of this and most of the time it is not a diagnosable condition. Only a licensed Mental health professional can diagnose. 2.) Understanding what Mental disorders are and Mental health challenges are. There is a difference between the two. Everyone has Mental health, not everyone with be diagnose with a disorder, however we all can have struggles with Mental health challenges at any point in ours lives. 3.) Dismantle the stigma around people living with a MH disorder. We can, AND DO recover and live successful lives. Encourage all people to seek therapy and community, not just for Mental illnesses or in a Crisis. 4.) End with Hope. Provide resources in the community, numbers for prevention lines. Resiliency is the key! Some really great professional services to look into are: Dr. Patrice Douglas, Mental Health First Aid(MHFA), NAMI, National Suicide Prevention hotline, and ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training). Great job on using your platform to talk about Mental Health, I look forward to more episodes on the subject.
