This is one of my fav movies of all time and I saw it in the theaters. I’ve NEVER interpreted that scene in that way! This is the first time I’ve heard that thought. I never thought the shark was recognizing her. I thought the shark was so smart that it was realizing that if it went for her it would get speared, so it waited just that one moment and when he dropped the spear and lept into the water the shark knew it was then safe to attack. Plus when he jumped in, the shark new it was 2 for the price of one.
@NoahF57
@NoahF57 Жыл бұрын
Basically to add on, she was using herself as bait. But then shark in turn used her as bait. Had it immediately killed her, the shark would have been in range for the spear, and 2 there would have been no reason for the guy to drop the spear. I think the shark was baiting him.

It’s actually fairly common for sharks to breach and they can actually get pretty high, there are lots of videos. Sharks are also one of the many animals on earth that are cannibalistic. Also, sharks can never swim backwards cuz it doesn’t give them the right water flow over their gills for oxygen, so them swimming backwards was alarming.
@michaelccozens
@michaelccozens Жыл бұрын
I think breaching in sharks is still pretty uncommon. We see videos of it because there's a particular population around South Africa that use it as part of a unique hunting strategy for a particular context, but other than that, it doesn't happen very often.

@DeepBlueSeaFan
@DeepBlueSeaFan Жыл бұрын
@azazello1784 The monster meets its maker trope is the most predictable ending in cinema history though. I would've gladly taken the "predictable happy original ending" over the silly, cheap, uneventful cop out we got that opened up a plethora of plot holes and ruined the overall narrative. Not just her surviving, but the entire third act was altered due to her comically silly death - as was the overall story as she was supposed to be the main character and the filmmakers were forced to go back and axe so much content and dialogue that involved Susan to make you feel more impartial toward her and so she'd seem like less of a central figure when in reality, it just made her character bland and uninteresting while transforming the movie into a silly popcorn flick. It's like Batman vs Superman vs BVS Ultimate Edition. They sacrificed quality to appease a few gore hounds.

My favorite shark movie. The simple idea of making sharks smart just added a whole new dimension of "you're fucked" to the movie. I'm also a sucker for smart predators in movies, so that helped. Also, a black guy survived a 1999 movie ! Progress ! Although I chuckle that their way to solve the "kill the black guy" trope was to just add a second character of color.

That’s exactly what we thought while watching! Making the sharks smart definitely elevated the stakes. It was such a thrill to watch! 23:46 It's called a Navy Crank Phone. It's a military invention from WW2, because in a water-rich environment, having a constantly powered phone could introduce a shock risk. So, when you need a connection, you spin a crank, which spins a magnet inside a coil of wire, creating electricity. The other half of the system is that the handset is sound-powered, so that the crank "calls" the phone of that you have selected on a separate dial, and then the phone itself converts sound waves into electricity to send along the wires. It's a pretty robust technology, so much so that it is even still used today on a lot of ships that spend a lot of time out on the water... think tankers, cargo ships, even military ships like the Nimitz-class aircraft carriers.

Highly recommend Deep Rising! It's from the maker of The Mummy and was supposed to be a prequel to a future King Kong movie. The movie went straight to vhs due to studio interference, but it's totally worth a watch for some horror fun.

I recommend u good how high can shark jump out of the water, it was literally the first episode ever of Shark Week. A Great White Shark can jump 8-10 feet out of the water, the record even records is of 15 feet. Just imagine the speed n force of impact combined with there bite force with those sharp teeth. They literal cut there prey in half, even light bite made just to tests if things are food or not taken body parts n must of the time kill the victim by blood lost. PS: Thresher Sharks, the ones with that long pointed tail can jump 20 feet, and the Shortfin Mako has recorded jumps of 30 feet off the water. Half fun at the Beach n boats on open Ocean.

I remember watching this with my buddies & the main thought within us was "If anyone gets injured, they'll be fine, they're scientists." So I like the fact that when they are getting the scientist to the helicopter, Susan says "I'm not this kind of doctor," because it shows that even with people like that, they're not safe.

So, so glad KZbin randomly suggested your channel! You two have been such a joy to watch. As I’ve gone through and watched quite a lot of your videos over the past few days, one of the biggest takeaways I’ve had is that yes, you are giving us your reactions, but you aren’t overtaking what you’re watching…if that makes sense. I’ve come across a lot of reactors that talk so much that I sometimes wonder if they’re actually even paying attention. I also love how you two focus on the little details that most people (including myself) would overlook. Funny, when I first saw Deep Blue Sea years ago, I thought it was so cheesy lol. But after watching your reactions, I’ve realized it’s not as bad as I initially thought. I don’t know if you guys take suggestions but I feel like Contagion might be a good one to react to. Anyway, I look forward to whatever you both have for us next! Take care and happy new year! By the way, Denise, you could make an audiobook just reading the alphabet and I’d buy it. I love your voice! It’s so calming.

I was pretty glad that they killed the lead researcher in the end (huge thanks to the test audience feedback for getting us that ending). Although her intentions were good and she does have some character growth, it felt wrong for her to survive with a romantic interest when she had been acting selfishly for most of the film while the rest of the cast were dying. Her having the gall to use herself as bait (esp throwing her whole body into the water, away from the ladder) and to expect that she still had a chance of surviving honestly made her surprise death feel warranted. I was glad to see that the chef character survived, he really went through it

One of my favorite movies of all time. I wish they had kept the original ending with Susan living and it would have been perfect honestly. Her character had a good arc in the film that sort of didn’t get to finish. They cut out some scenes that make her more likable as well, once they decided to change the end at the last minute. Still a great flick though. I’d love to see the original ending!

@09:32 - not a floppy disk! They were called Zip Drives, and could hold an unbelievable 100 megabytes of data, as compared to the 1.4 megs a floppy disk could hold, where meg does not refer to a shark ancient or otherwise. Movie note: Samuel Jackson agreed to do this movie only if his character got killed by the shark.

It's confusing, because apparently the film crew built really accurate models of mako sharks - and then painted stripes on one to use as a tiger shark (despite mako and tigers looking very different in real life).
@chriscage669
@chriscage669 Жыл бұрын
@@iapetusmccool yeah that’s one of the mistakes I’ve realized in the movie My guess is that since they were building these animatronics for 8 months they were in the middle of work to create a tiger shark but instead of wasting another few months they decided to paint one the animatronics with stripes to look like a tiger shark. Another difference we can tell are the CGI versions the Makos are a bit larger than the tiger shark

I'd always get scared on that scene even i had this movie on DVD and knew it🙈. Liked hpw they were not typically Great White but Mako Sharks.
