We practice deep breathing in internal arts. But our deep breathing isn't what you think it is. Don't take a "deep breath". Take a regular, comfortable breath, but then relax the tensions in your torso so the breath can become thin, long, and deep.

Belly breathing can be achieved by manipulating your jaw, and opening your mouth wide in concert with a physical activity like bicycling. If you can achieve a yawn at almost every breath, you have achieved what people refer to as belly breathing. This will oxygenate your body. It is very satisfying to be able to yawn at will. One final thing: to achieve this you must not care what you look like when manipulating your jaw in cooperation with exercise that elevates your heart and breathing. If you are concerned about what people will think, do it on a night ride with your friends, when people won’t be paying attention.

Thank you, can you explain a little more about the specifics on inhale and exhale ( or the differences ) ?

Inhale and exhale become fascinating when you start imagining energy exchange beyond just breathing in oxygen from your air passages in your nose and mouth and into your lungs. There is the biological function of oxygen intake that is one direction, into the lungs, out of the lungs. But in our internal arts practice the energy exchange is always bidirectional so inhale goes both ways and exhale also goes both ways and your intention drives the direction. Hard to explain in words....
