@ghost mall I like listening to Van Halen and Metallica, but I don't want to hear David Lee Roth singing for Metallica or James Hetfield singing lead vocals for Van Halen. Call it what you will, but this version is a partial cover band. If I got to a FM concert, I don't want to hear Split Ends songs, or hear Stevie singing "Free Falling". But to each their own.

Fun fact: "Sun King" off the Beatles Abbey Road medley was actually inspired by Fleetwood Mac's "Albatross". George Harrison said as much in an interview years later: "At the time, 'Albatross' (by Fleetwood Mac) was out, with all the reverb on guitar. So we said, 'Let's be Fleetwood Mac doing Albatross, just to get going.' It never really sounded like Fleetwood Mac... but that was the point of origin."

Silver Springs is my absolute favorite Fleetwood Mac song. It’s such a crime it wasn’t on rumors because it’s Stevie Nicks at her absolute best-the lyrics and vocal performance are exquisite, and the building tension really hammers home the emotional intensity. It might be her most breakup-y song too. It was cut from Rumors because it didn’t physically fit on the album and I think she tried to actually fight Mick over it. It wasn’t officially released until it was live on the dance but nowadays you can find the original recording as a bonus track to rumors! Definitely recommend taking a listen.

Thank you so much for touching on the whole 'art comes from tortured souls' thing. I was pondering this recently after watching some stuff about The Chain and how tumultuous the whole creation of Rumors was. On one hand, the album is freaking amazing, on the other, no one should have to go through that kind of pain just to make art. I appreciate your note about how we should consider that instead of being a masterpiece because of the drama, the album is a masterpiece IN SPITE of the drama.

I just need to say, I love the Deep Discog Dive. It's absolutely my favourite music review / documentary show on KZbin. I think it has the best balance of comedy, opinion, and information (at just the right amount that doesn't overwhelm the viewer, but still gives a well-rounded story of the artist). The little jokes, quips and references give the videos a nice momentum, while not distracting from the actual content being discussed. Very thorough videos. Love 'em.

Wow. This was really well done and very well researched. I own 46 Fleetwood Mac albums, including bootlegs. This may be the best retrospective of the band I've seen. Hope you don't mind me pointing out two minor mistakes. Peter Green didn't have a name for the instrumental he recorded and John Mayall suggested calling it Fleetwood Mac because he recorded the song with Fleetwood and McVie. Also Blues jam at Chess is not a live album. It was recorded at Chess studios which was going to be closing. Much as I love Rumours, my favorite Mac album is Tusk.

Quick mention that Fleetwood Mac also helped with the musical transition from bluesy hard rock to heavy metal with "Oh Well (Part 1)". Not that most metalheads will admit that a band like the Mac ever had anything to do with metal, just like the Osmonds.

Legit my favorite band and honestly it's impossible to pick a favorite album. Rumours is obviously the best but I have a soft spot for Tango In The Night. They're just so great

Very well done! My first time hearing a Fleetwood Mac song was in 1975. I was 14 or 15, and was hanging out with my girlfriend. Rhiannon came on the radio. It was magic. I also remember all the radio stations going on about the price of the Tusk album. I tried to record it but it didn't turn out well. Again, great job! Oh, Steely Dan and Talking Heads would make great deep dives. Rush too, but there are already a couple of decent docs for them. Heck, there were already some Fleetwood Mac docs out but that didn't stop you haha. Or an Adrian Belew dive. He sure made the rounds.

I just fell in love with Stevies songwriting ever since hearing Rhiannon. Has never changed. But the mix of Stevie, Christine and Lindsey is what made Fleetwood Mac so interesting. I'm grateful I got to see them twice!

As a 40 something, I've come full circle. Fleetwood Mac has been shown to me by every cool parent when I was teenager, back when music was everything. Now it is being shown to me in depth by someone of an age range I could have fathered. It blows my mind when I think about it, that the music of the 80s and 90s now is like 50s and 60s we're to me as a teenager.

Jenny Boyd has two incredible books too!! I was singing on MICK’S solo album “the Vistor” with George and he asked me to come to his home Friar Park to sing with him on his movie score for “The Time Bandits”. Not long after John Lennon was murdered and Jon Bonham passed. I felt blessed to be there with Mick to try and comfort them. And sing too I must add. Sorry. I had to name drop. At Jimmy Page’s

Just wanted to throw in a thanks for this video - not only did you sum up a complicated story while making me laugh along the way, but as a casual Fleetwood Mac fan I was so excited to check out the playlist you assembled and it did not disappoint. (Damn, “Mystery to Me” is a real gem of an album, and Bob Welch deserves so much more credit for his contributions in retrospect.) I was fortunate to see the Rumours lineup live in 2015 and they still put on a phenomenal show then. What a talented group of people all around.

I wanna point out that the people they added for the album time, Dave Mason and Bekka Bramlett have connections to the 1960s British blues scene. Dave Mason was known for being in the band Traffic, and Bekka Bramlett was the daughter of Bonnie Bramlett of Delaney and Bonnie (which Eric Clapton and George Harrison played with)

This is probably one of the most helpful episodes in this series so far for me. I’ve really only been familiar with the second self-titled album, Rumours, Tusk, and a few songs outside of those albums. I wanted to go deeper but had no idea which ones were the good ones, especially during the early 70s. So thank you for this one!

'Sentimental Lady' is hands down my favorite Fleetwood Mac song (Oh Well is a close second). Bob Welch was a genius imo for that number. But very specifically the Bare Trees version. I'm not as hot on the adult contemporary solo version on his French Kiss album, even though it's still his song.
