The issue of personal and family space and boundaries is critical. In Eastern cultures such boundaries are very poorly defined while in Western societies they seem too rigid. But one thing both societies refuse to grant an individual is the right to be idle and day dream: Eastern societies because of lack of planning and Western societies because of too much planning. So in trying to find a workable solution in this regard, we need to be aware of the dangers of going too far to the other extreme.

@@cfscinternational1507 I totally agree with you that Western societies have played a significant role in promoting individual human talent as they view human resource as a critical input in the larger economic machinery. The downside of an economically competitive society is that people don't find enough time to enjoy the spontaneity of life due to the rigidity of their daily schedules. Even school going children are so busy with trainings and practices after school that there is hardly any downtime. Parents, especially mom's have to drive their kids all over for these events, hence the expression: soccer mom. My comment was meant in that spirit and not to put down Western societies or their systems as a whole. It was meant as a cautionary note to endeavor to avoid pitfalls associated with "progress". I hope I have adequately addressed your concerns.
