Thank you for trying to cover the loop function in VL3X in one video. I've been looking for tutorials about that and you cover pretty much everything. Even though, you were kind of rushing, I can still pause and rewind the only video that deals with it in full. VL3X is a very complex device, but if you know how to use it, it can help you a lot in your live performances so you don't have to carry a lot of equipment.

Thanks for this video David - my question is about the midi capabilities: I can have VL3 Ex to communicate with a Novation Circuit groove box (drum machine) fine, it receives the midi tempo from the groovebox and stays in sync while looping. So midi in function is OK. Is there a way to use the midi out capability simultaneously? Like being able to map a button on VL3 or on Switch 6 to be able to control the start/stop functions on the groovebox. I'm able to achieve this with the Boss RC 505 looper, so it shows that the groovebox is capable of receiving incoming midi data while being the master device for tempo. I see those midi out parameters like output channel and output filter in VL3 Ex settings under the midi tab, can you please make a video explaining them in detail as well? Thank you!

Thank for the great info into the looper side with practical application. I've played with this looper since its inception. The video is for those who own and have at least attempted to navigate the parameters. I found that watching this video with your VL3 open and setup will help you make better loops just by example alone, therefore making a cleaner and more entertaining live show. Now in saying that I do hope TC comes out with an upgrade to access loop three with less dancing on the pedal. Keep up the good fight David.

Use the aux in for an additional input. If you want more than one additional input other than guitar, voice and one aux in, which it sounds like you do, connect a small mixer into the aux in and then route all your instruments into that mixer. That opens up a lot of options and gives you a lot more control. Mackie and Behringer make great small affordable mixers perfect for this application.

This is difficult stuff, but it might help, in future, if you: 1) Chunk it up into smaller pieces 2) Get organised and practice the video some more 3) Slow down and 4) Don't try to be all things to all people (i.e. don't deal with very complex and very basic functionality in the same video). As a VL3X user, I am always looking for more tutorials and ways of seeing how other users do things. I am a songwriter and my strength is in the music, not the tech side, so getting gear and gaining the know-how can be intimidating to me: I'm not totally clueless but sometimes I really have to try hard to grasp things...while this video contained much of what I've been wanting to learn more about for the looping, I had a very hard time following it and essentially gave up. For constructive criticism for this lovely fellow making this video (thank you!) please don't assume ANYTHING on the part of the user. Speak slower, move slower, repeat things multiple times, explain first, then show, etc. I'd rather review basic material I already know than have to rewind the video and pause to try to catch super quick button punches and knob turns. It's hard enough to see screens on a screen, but when you move so quickly, it gets into the frustrating and off-putting territory. I have watched the other tutorials by TCH and will continue to look forward to more. I also recommend Bishop Bautista's The Ultimate Voicelive3 Extreme Tutorial Series. Thank you - please keep putting out more helpful, encouraging material!

Good effort David but like everyone else here I’m confused, here’s my particular problem. At 18.10 you’re talking about midi sync and you say “it has to be off because if it’s on, watch what happens”, then you start pressing the play/stop button. So here’ my question; is the midi sync stopping the loop or are you stopping it and re-starting it? I can see you quickly pressing the button and I can hear the loop starting and stopping, but I’ve watched it back several times and I’m still not sure exactly what is going on there. I’m guessing the midi clock is stopping the loop but might I suggest that you press the ‘play’ button just once, then please take your hand out of the frame so that we can SEE that happening? In all fairness I have gained a lot from this tutorial, but it is bloody hard work
@davidhilderman2 жыл бұрын
It doesn't stop and start exactly when you press the footswitches when midi sync is on- it is trying to sync to non-existant MIDI- the difference is subtle but it makes the you go nuts thinking that you didn't set the loop precisely, but actually midi-sync is messing things up.

Thanks for the video. I’ll need to rewatch a few times to get each part in my head. Are all the things shown applicable to VL3 as I don’t own the extreme version? You asked me what else I’d like to see. I’d like some actual examples of using the looper with a guitar and vocals showing the complete process of building a song and storing it ready so that all I need to do is load it up and add my lead vocal and lead guitar parts. I think doing this for several songs and gradually increasing the complexity would help. Also, on my screen the text in your video is very small and the VL3 has a poor display to begin with so it would help enormously if the screen display was bigger and maybe use the inset video picture to show button presses. Finally, can I store loop slots on the VL3 itself or do I need a thumb drive inserted? Many thanks. These videos are very helpful.

@@difdesign Hi Deiter, it depends on what you want to do with your system. If you want to perform live with Band in the Box acting as backing tracks, I would connect USB from the PC with Band in a Box to VoiceLive 3 and follow the instructions in Band-in-a-box to Output Chords as described here: www.pgmusic.com/tcheliconvoicelive3.htm What ever mic you want to have vocal processing, connect to VoiceLive 3 extreme. I would connect VL3X XLR outrputs, Keyboard, eGittare, and the rest of the microphones to the mixer. If you are OK with controlling the Band in a box audio with the computer and not the mixer, set the audio out for biab to VoiceLive 3, if you want biab to be controlled by the mixer, you will need to connect the audio out from your computer or an audio interface to the mixer. If your audio interface has a MIDI output, I would connect this to VL3X rather than using USB. This gives less chance of ground noise issues I hope this helps.

Are you serious you need to record an audio track to change the tempo on the metronome? Not a very friendly user idea. The device sounds nice but it is way too complicated. Designed by engineers, not musicians.

It would be nice if you told what buttons did each function and just not push them. Lost this dyslexic guy fast. KISS

The function of each of the 6 buttons is displayed on the VL3X's screen.

There is so much inane, meaningless stuff that it hurts the presentation. Also, not saying what you're pressing/doing with EVERY action makes it hard to follow, we have to rewind as you fly through a set of button presses. Instead, just say, "I'm going to go back where we started and try it again by pressing this, that gets me to here, then select that, that gets us there, and finally press here to get back." Sing on key, or just speak words, don't hold out off-key notes and then overdub more off-key stuff. Please. We're hoping to learn how to make meaningful music with our VoiceLive. Thank you.

You might want to write some kind of script to follow so you don't stumble over your words so often. It's not only annoying and confusing, it's also a colossal waist of time.

Sorry not a great video, very poor examples and not really detailing usage much...lets focus on real world use, rather than running through all the features.
