Wow….im piecing this together. With my 37 years of experience with women…. Why did she even bother talking to her husband about Pete to begin with? I’ll tell you: she started off automatically painting him in a negative light because she knew what she was going to do as soon as she met him. She described him as this pig… a real dog of a man. She related him to a guy that both of them knew and both she and her husband did not like and had a notorious reputation for being a womanizer. The only thing positive that she mentioned about him was that he had a good speaking voice. She did all of this to disarm her husband and to “reassure” him that he had nothing to worry about in the event he was not able to get a hold of her later on in the night. She’s thinking that since she spoke so negatively about Pete that there’s no way her husband would suspect that she would ever sleep with the guy.

When I was a young 2nd Lt. In the Army stationed in Germany back in the 1990’s, my Brigade commander was the boss, a true leader and loved by the troops. He eventually became the Chief of Staff for the Division Commander, and I was also promoted and moved into a unit that supported the Commanding General (CG). I would run into him from time to time as my platoon supported the Tactical Operations Center (TOC) directly when we deployed into the field. One day he vanished. No explanation… nothing. I found out later he was forced to retire after the CG called in the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) after suspecting someone/something was going on as his desk appeared to be rummaged through when he would come in the next morning. CID set up a camera in his office for a week and concluded the investigation when they discovered the Chief of Staff was banging his secretary on the CG’s desk, and they got it on video. He was married with 3 kids, and I remember my heart sinking upon learning the news of his career ending behavior. Leaders should be held to a higher standard, especially when lives are on the line. Nobody is perfect, nor do I expect people to be perfect. I do expect leaders to exercise good judgement. Pete’s behavior demonstrates he is deficient in this area, and that is concerning and, in my option, a disqualifying aspect for the job he is being nominated for. Same thing with General Patreus. He tried to hide his affair and got caught. We need to trust our leaders, especially military leaders, to be able to control their urges to conduct themselves with integrity and honesty. Even the appearance of unethical behavior is a problem. If he is willing to violate his vow (Oath) to his spouse(S), how can we expect him to honor his oath of office and not be corrupted?

This happened to my nephew and it ruined his life. The woman he had been seeing had a boyfriend, said boyfriend found out and she cried rape. She went with it. He had to sell his home to pay for a lawyer. He was only 24 years old. He had saved to buy his first home and now it was gone. They had a bench trial and thankfully the judge saw right through all of it and issued a decision at the end of the 2 day trial. He ripped that young woman a new one! For about 20 minutes he lectured her about her actions and how wrong it was. At that time I wasn't in a financial position to help him and either was his family. He had to start all over again. We live in a small town of 25,000 people. Of course everyone had heard about it. He lost most of his friends but 2 of the best stuck by him. It was horrible. I don't believe this woman.
