PK is a talent maximizer, he's not going to hamstring his own D by not capitalizing on the ability of guys like Alfred Collins to disrupt, so don't be surprised if you see him occasionally line up as a "jack" with Snacks & Big Lunch collapsing the interior and an X backer screaming in off the other edge.

Dude. This was EXCELLENT! He has used gradually larger guys at jack. Think the guy last year was 280... Lets tell collins to stop hangin out with snax and lunch, and put him back at his natural edge position. He also has the quick twitch and the coordination to back out and cover the flat, or a shallow crossing zone. Idk. Coach K said the D would look pretty much the same. "Look" Hype for the season. This was awesome, my guy!

Hindsight is 20/20, but the defense was a disaster, especially after the Oklahoma game. One of the goals that Pete had, preventing a worn down defense against the spread, became one of its problems. What is curious now seeing this history, is that Gary Patterson's relocation to UT. Kind of brings everything full circle.
@Slick_Nick75672 жыл бұрын
Looking at his track record he didn't just become a bad coach overnight and that goes for a lot of the staff. I think although there were talented players left behind from the previous staff there were more deficiencies specifically on edge, LB, WR, and OL. The previous staffs might have had highly rated recruiting classes but it was all skill positions and the trenches were ignored. It seems this staff has done a better job recruiting the right pieces and even positions that weren't hit well last cycle have been filled out with the portal. There are still going to be issues with edge this season but luckily this staff has a few more months to figure it out.

Any analysis of Coach Ks defense against power running teams? Seems like all his success is against spread west coast teams. Having said that I'm impressed with his willingness to adapt to any offensive challenge presented to him. Hook em!
@TexasHomer3 жыл бұрын
Yeah brother for sure, watch the stanford vs UW games. Stanford is a power run team and they do great. PK is famous for his spread defense because it's topical, but the reality is PK is hyper adaptable and adjusts based on power runs/jumbo sets. I asked myself the same question when I first started research for the video. This is an excellent question and keep em coming!
@THELANDOSHOW3 жыл бұрын
Excellent question & an even more excellent response. You the man Homer!
@firghteningtruth71733 жыл бұрын
Thats the whole point. Hes multiple. But hes REALLY good at shutting down pass heavy concepts... I really am not gonna question if lunch and snax can shut the center down. You should check out some of his feints. Homer shows one concept, but he brings in a ton to just lock one lineman up, stunt, so the 2 dls end up passing off responsibilities with the lineman...and as that happens, he sends dogs at ya. So you feint 1, and then lock up 4 with 2. So you get 2 free guys to stop the run, or make the qbs day real, real bad. Hell even line up dldlhybridhybrid, and bring all the pressure to the lead side. The guy is truly innovative. The talent gap is what Id worry about. Id guess that most b12 teams are at least a BIT more skilled at talent positions than the pac, as the spread has been our bread and butter for over a decade.... But not by much. Edit: what im saying is while he only ever gave up 17 to leach... Oklahoma runs a system HIGHLY tweaked, and with much better talent. So dont expect a 1:1 return there. However, his concepts are solid, and SHOULD work the same in the b12. Especially considering the gap in talent that HE has gained.
@robertmines2413 жыл бұрын
@@firghteningtruth7173 This is the question and it gets deeper when considering that jump in talent group and can he manage ego? He is excellent taking the junkyard dogs that were looked over and have that chip on their shoulders. But will he be able to enlighten the talented underachiever? Can’t wait to find out!!!

Love your stuff. This may be the 3rd time I've watched this video. I have high hopes for Sark and PK- I'm very excited to see what they do. The one thing I was worried about from your production here is that you pointed out how at previous stops PK was looking for guys like him- not a top rating, high motor, determined... that was the mold he found success with. At the end of this video you point to the fact that now PK will have access to higher quality players. I'm wondering if that will be beneficial or detrimental to his method? I know it seems silly to question, but we've had Group of 5 coaches at Texas who all of a sudden had access to top shelf talent and didn't get it done.
@TexasHomer3 жыл бұрын
Not a silly question at all, I have asked myself the same question. It is different coaching 5 stars than 3 stars. But ultimately 5 stars all need development too. We had 5 stars at Texas with no development and they plummeted down the draft boards. But like you, I’ll be watching that as well. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it!

Kwiatkowski isn't the first to attempt running a 2-4-5 defense, others have tried and failed at the highest levels. Also, when someone is 6' 280 lbs (Ryan Bowman), you can call him an OLB if you want, but that's a strongside DE. Football is a game of trade-offs. You want to get more athleticism on the field, you're going to have to give up some size. Give up some size for speed, people are going to hammer that lack of size with power. Biggest problem with 2-4 fronts is they're susceptible to gap schemes.
