Just a few pitches for future content - Why Smash is the only platform fighter to achieve mainstream success - Why NRS games aren't always respected as much as Japanese fighting games - Why fighting games (with the exception of MK) tend to have boring, or overly complicated stories - Why you always see certain styles represented (karate, may Thai, Jeet Kun do) - Overlooked scenes that rose to dominate professional play (Mexico, Pakistan, etc)

@tsvetelin6556 I might do one way down the line but with how MK1 is going, I'm not sure. I do like the MK games a lot but they're just not built to last for the most part it seems. And I think that's by design

@@qmanchuYes it hurts us all MK fans and players but there is just nothing similar to MK in terms of design and characters and graphics and for me the combos also look cooler but I guess that's subjective. Thanks for the reply! PS: There is still hope for MK1 though :(

I live in Iraq, and most people I know who are living in other countries other than mine say that their favourite fighting game is MK, and that this is the dominant opinion there and in Iraq as well. This makes sense. I can play MK and both have fun and feel good about my performance just by seeing the move list and expressing my self. SF, GG, and generally most other fighting games (beside maybe T7) requires too much from people who just want play some video games and are interested in in fighting games. Though they might have alternative controls, they are usually underbaked, and are mostly labelled something alongside "simple mode" and the community deems us immature for choosing them. Thanks, I think I'll stick with mortal kombat.

It just seems that internationally more people play Mortal Kombat, I knew friends who played MK and sometimes Tekken in the UK but none who played Street Fighter .

@@FGCombo All of them. Mostly the NRS trilogy. But I remember growing up in the 2000s and seeing only MK, TEKKEN, Bloody Roar, and WWE games being played in the arcades when it comes to fighting games.

I've got some ideas cooking but I kinda like to rotate between games. I'll 100% be doing more MK content in the future but I can't guarantee how soon that will be. There will be references to it here and there but I dunno about a 100% MK video. Just being honest. These videos take a lot of time and research to make so I can only do a few a month. I've gotta pick and choose my topics unfortunately and I like fighting games too much to focus on just one lol

One point about politics is that indeed consoles are more expensive in Brazil even to this day than in other countries, in part because of taxes. These taxes are important to allow investments in culture, education, health, etc. This also happens in more advanced countries, such as China. Changing the subject to MK, it is an undeniable violent game, and there are scientific research (don't be confused by mere opinions) showing a correlation between violent games and violent behaviour, especially in children. In a country infested by violence as Brazil, the last thing we want as a society is more violence. I'm not saying I'm against video games, hell I have a copy of MK11, but I'm just saying that to blame the government to make its job is an immature complain. Video games need regulation, and although the decisions in the 90s were antiquate, it doesn't mean they were pointless. Oh, and just to finish my paragraph in a positive tone, there is this new Brazilian game Pocket Bravery which is heavily inspired by the old SNK and Capcom games, I recommend to give it a try!

I'm not saying children should be playing these video games, definitely not. And I'm not blaming the government for trying to ban the games either. It's just that they failed to actually do anything about it AND it led to those games becoming more popular due to the publicity behind the ban. Just overall ineffectual regardless of their intentions unfortunately

It's not quite like that, no. I'm Brazilian, game design professor, researcher and educator and I'll add my two cents to this conversation: Brazilians are the people who work the most and pay the most abusive fees and taxes in the world! If this money that is taken from us REALLY went to the right place, no one would be complaining. However, the people continue to suffer from lack of jobs, horrible hospital care, hunger, lack of public security and other things. And the reason is quite simple: ALL the rulers who have passed through this country (Right and Left) have been corrupt and work with a corrupt structural system. Money being embezzled and the masses being maneuvered into defending ideologies and parties that vampirize them. Therefore, this legend that fees and taxes are "fair" in Brazil is nothing more than that: a legend. Tax in Brazil is theft. Any Brazilian knows this. It's a miracle our country never went bankrupt.

one of the problems here in brasil is that games can get obscenely expensive, because of the conversion rate between the dollar and the real. also, because of the difficulty to access games and hardware, not many people play these games, so it is really hard to find someone that does play fighting games, and when we do, they tend to be casual players. even if you get to know someone that plays regularly, good luck finding more people to form a community or league. with accessible hardware and titles, and a newcomer friendly fighting game (like project L looks to be), I think we could really boom. but until then, I'll keep grinding on tekken... alone 🥲

I am from Brazil, maybe i am wrong but as far as i know the situation was way more... Intresting... You see, we had a military dictatorship here and the laws were changed in a way that you couldn't buy things from outside, it should be produced here, or, at least, it was required a real, official presence here (Just like TecToy was for Sega). As far as i know, we weren't playing "illegal clones" 'cause the clones were made by brazilian companies, so they were the legal ones, BUT you couldn't buy a NES by legal ways at the time.

It was a bit of both from what I've heard. I've talked to people from a bunch of parts of the country and it seemed that yes some were manufactured in Brazil, but there was also a big smuggling market with products from America. People would pirate software all the time according to those I spoke with and some articles. BUT Brazil is a big country. There's lots of different ways to look at this story, thanks for sharing!
