Just awesome, now i do wonder if it also could be used on a digital audio modded snes to make sure that it does not sneakingly use those external sound pins for it’s own soundchip. In other word i suppose this midi cartride does not allow external sound right?
@emperorbohe3 ай бұрын
there is no sound output on the cart itself, all audio is coming from the SNES output. the 3.5 jacks on the cart are for midi only.

Nice, how do you get the samples drum hits onto the snes ?
@emperorbohe2 жыл бұрын
I used the Super Midi Pak cartridge to transfer sounds over. There was a lot of processing before hand that had to be done as well to make sure that it would fit in the limited SNES memory.

Considering the SNES had sample-based audio... why would this even be desirable in the first place? I feel like the Sega Genesis would be a more desirable console to turn into a dedicated synth.
@projectz9752 жыл бұрын
Why use a Genesis when a modern synth would sound way better?
@emperorbohe2 жыл бұрын
i've been looking into Genesis midi solutions but most have been sold out unfortunately.
@madelinehoyle10592 жыл бұрын
@@projectz975 what metric are you using when you say modern synths "sound better"? The Yamaha YM2616 FM chip in the Genesis has a very unique and desirable retro FM sound for chiptune music especially. I'm not sure you achieve the same sounds with something like the Korg OPSIX or Elektron Digitone.
@projectz9752 жыл бұрын
@@madelinehoyle1059 just making the point that everyone finds different gear interesting for different reasons. using the SNES to make music isnt cool because its the """best""" tool, its cool cause its a SNES.
@madelinehoyle10592 жыл бұрын
@@projectz975 I said "desirable", not "best". Very different meaning. The SNES as a sample player is a novelty, sure, but this is similarly interesting to playing an externally sequenced track using the exact same samples on something like an early Akai rack-mount sampler, or really any other device capable of PCM. This is so different from other old game consoles which have unique synthesis silicon and can't be replicated 1:1 on contemporary gear.

I wonder if the super midi pak is compatible with the hyperkin supaboy; I'd like to connect it to my pocket operator and jam on the go

I think some people in the discord were saying that it isn't 100% compatible, however not too sure of the details
