Deep Impact Achievement using the gravity cannon | Outer Wilds

Please activate subtitles for real-time info.
At the beginning of the loop, wait ~10 mins at the camp fire, then head for the gravity cannon of Brittle Hollow.
Call back the Nomai ship by dragging the ball to the right side. Enter the ship, then wait until Giant's Deep is right in the crosshair to fire (drag the ball to the left side of the command panel).
Enjoy the trip and the achievement.
No FPS capping is needed for this.

One time, I was headed to Giant's Deep, and I opted to not slow down and just hit the water, since it'll cushion the impact and be faster overall. Once I breached the atmosphere, I quickly noticed two things, one: there was an *island* directly ahead of me; two: _ow._

I did the same thing. I was attempting the deeper impact achievement and was going a humble 6km per second before breaching atmosphere and slamming into a rising island going roughly 6 and a half thousand meters persecond. this crashed my game.

This was how I got to the GD core for the first time! I happened to discover the BH gravity cannon as GD was passing overhead, and I just went for it. I had only been to GD a few times, and didn't even know about its core yet. This game is amazing.

Considering this was the Nomai's only method of in-system travel before they developed teleporters, it's a wonder they never breached the current themselves!

You can just DO that!? The Nomai ship must be way more hydrodynamic than the Hearthian ship to get through at such low speeds!

The hearthian ship is shaped like a pallet of bricks with balloons attached to it and the Nomai ship is shaped like a rocket, that has to count for something

nomai ship is made of metal, our ship is mostly made of wood, that's why the nomai ship sinks much easier

No the traditional way of getting the achievement is doing the same thing just with your ship. You need to fly far far out though because you need a lot of speed over 12,000m/s. I did it. It was hard. I was very frustrated to figure out this was so much easier.

@@FranklinThe1 actually, it turns out that higher frame rates make punching through harder. In other words, you get pushed up for every frame you are near the boundary. Use a frame limiter and you can get through with way less speed

@@robobuilder1335 Yeah that's what I did. I went down to 30 fps. It was jarring because before I was getting 120 most of the time lol. The sensitivity got all weird. But I still had to go pretty fast but it was much easier doing it that way.

Another alternative is to wait for some of the islands to lift off and be underneath them when they are coming back to the planet

After flying into the planet twice at 5000km with the ship didn't work, and flying into it with the Nomai ship twice (like the video) just had it skim the surface, this worked for me on the second try, even if I ended up severely injured and stuck drowning inside the rock crevasse.

I'm playing for the second time since it released and it's crazy how so much of the wonder is lost. I flew straight into BH black hole on the first launch like it was nothing. Hope the dlc is as good as they say.

I did the same I went so far the map HUD completely broke and it started measuring the distance in exponents. I couldn’t even see the sun.

I tried ramming tje planet at high speed, I died by crashing into an island so fast I just had the time to understand what happened I tried to put my ship under falling islands but I couldn't keep it at the right spot Finally I tried your method and IT WORKED Thank you so much

It might take some folks a few tries but it's helpful to note the alignment comes somewhere midway through the loop and not right away if you start at the beginning (rest at the campfire for 11 minutes if you're fast).

The way I got this achievement was by cramming my ship under one of the islands while the island was in space and the sheer speed of the island going back down was good enough to enter

Surely this has to be a bug. It takes going at 10km/s to break through with your ship, I doubt its an intended mechanic to let the shuttle through so easily.

It almost certainly has to do with the different physics of the nomai shuttle.

@@uny4781 The nomai never needed to go to the centre, there is no proof of them every getting down beneath the current besides them making models of reverse tornadoes, however their ship is made of highly advanced metal and is much larger than our wooden ship so it is probably heavy enough to break through with ease

Can confirm this worked after a couple tried for me. The first I don't think it was direct enough of a shot to break through and I was just floating on the water. Too early or too late and you won't make it through. Thanks for the vid and good luck to those who see this!

For anybody playing on PC, launch the probe right at the 14 minute mark. It helps to have the Clock and AlterTime mods. Sleeping by the campfire sometimes causes the Gravity Cannon to fall into Brittle Hollow's black hole before launch time, so I'd just use AlterTime to speed time up instead.

my shuttle topples over for some reason and also the planet alignment is different, i dont get this kind of setup after 10 mins.. looks like i need to call the shuttle at the last moment and pray for good alignment.

I got the achievement by sticking my ship under the frozen jellyfish island as it got launched into space by the cyclones. Afterwards my ship got stuck under the island and I had to reset but I weirdly still got the achievement even tho I wasn't able to stay underneath the current

This is how I got the achievement, 100% accidental, I was looking around the shuttle and turned to look out the window just as I was about to enter the atmosphere, just missing an island; first time I've seen other footage of it.

This isn’t the actual way to get to the core. This is a cool find. I will post the real way to get in lower. (SPOILERS) below ) One of the tornados on the planet is spinning counter clockwise. So instead it forces you down when u fly into it instead of up. It will get u near the inside of the core. How u actually get in you have to figure out on your own

Yea you are talking about he "proper" way to get to the core. The achievement is for entering the core without using the vortex. Usually you have to go far away from the solar system and plow into Giants Deep at high speed, this is the only other way I've seen it done.

I never learned the reverse tornado because I immediately guessed you could ride the underside of an island down, and just did that for my playthrough.

Yeah, I noticed one of the islands dipping its base below the current when it came crashing down, so I just wedged my ship under that island and waited. Later on, I found the model explaining the reverse cyclone, and all I could think was, "Huh. That does sound safer, yeah." But I'm glad I did it my way and got the achievement, LOL.
