It's no secret we love being underground and we love our caves. When we saw the billboard sign for Sonora Caverns in Texas, we just had to stop. We know our caves, but this one was quite beautiful and they had RV hookups!

Great Video Guys! 1979 I took my wife to see The Caverns of Sonora on our Honeymoon, the running joke for the last 37 years (and 20+ other caves and caverns) is "you took me to the best one first!" - so far, in our experience, nothing can compare to The Caverns of Sonora. In 1979 our tour was led by an old "cow hand" that had worked the ranch, for the owners of the caverns, for 40+ years. The "cow hand" was living a working retirement by leading tours of the caverns with only a key to unlock the chain on the door to the caverns and a 3 "D" cell flashlight. We sure got our money's worth that day. Not only did we see the most beautiful cavern imaginable we got 2 hours of narration on the cavern and a collection of wonderful stories about West Texas, the Sonora, TX area and the discovery and commercialization of the caverns. We have been back over the years, nothing has changed, still the most beautiful cavern system we have ever seen. God's Speed and Safe Travels.

Wow, thanks so much for sharing that with us! That must have been quite the tour and what an awesome honeymoon! We are suckers for caves and caverns and thought this one was quite stunning. Wish we could have seen it back then and heard all of the stories. Wishing you a blessed New Year!

This is a MUST SEE in person as videos and pics can never do it justice! We loved it and just happened upon it as we took some wrong turns in Texas last Spring. The deeper you go the more beautiful it is! No pics or vids of the peacocks?

Stunning underground art work! Not sure I could do that one, but grateful to see through your post 🤗 loved the descriptions of the stalactites, holding tight, and stalagmites, might reach the top! Wonderful way to remember! That was beautifully videotaped. Some of the colors had a real blue hue. Was it really like that?
@Totally-trailer

Cher Kelley This was a special one and very different from some of the other ones we have been in. The blue hue could have been from the lighting but there was also water that was blue and green too so it was visually stunning!

That was a beautiful cave. Great video also. If you are coming back west again through Arizona, just South of Benson, AZ on Hwy 90, where you spent the night there is Kartchner Caverns State Park. They have RV camping there also. It's one of the top caverns to visit and have two sections open to the public at different times of the year. You can check it out their web site.

Thanks again!! I think I have told y'all (aka, you guys, etc. Y'all are learning...), but when writing or saying the word, TEXAS, it must be done in all capitals. And for caves, y'all must go to Missouri. I think it has more caves, caverns, and holes in the ground than any other state. Check it out.

Looks like we have a few things in common. Lake Powell, caves and travel trailers! We have been going to lake Powell every year for about 20 years. We boat camp usually, we have a 25' bow rider similar to yours and one of our very favorite things to do is explore canyons like in your Powell video and camp on a beautiful secluded beach for a week, every year. Also take our boat into some of the caves on Lake Powell when the water level is low. There is something so exciting about driving your boat into a cave! We bought an Airstream a few months back to start exploring some National Parks and the country. While still maintaining a sticks and bricks house and a boat. Somethings gotta give. Anyway, last Summer we explored a Lava Tube in Flagstaff Arizona. Its at the end of a forestry road and it was amazing and I was wondering if you have found that place? If not, I really think its something that you would enjoy next time you are in Arizona. Happy Trails Northern Star Travelers

Yes! We'll be there in August I think. We haven't decided if we are going to bring the Airstream and the boat and camp at Lone Rock or at the campground in Page or boat camp somewhere around Dangling Rope. We have always boat camped.

Wow! Could hardly believe what I was seeing - can't imagine what it must have been like to see the caverns in person! We visited some cavernous caves in the Rock of Gibraltar, 300 metres above sea level. There were HUGE stalagmites and stalactites, and the cave 'ceilings' were as high as a six or seven storey building. If you do a search in Google images for St. Michael's caves, Gibraltar, you will see what we saw. But I am in more awe over the Sonora Caverns and their spectacular beauty! Thanks for taking us on the journey!

@@Totally-trailer - Never have been to St. Michael's , but I understand that, at least many years ago, a symphony orchestra used to play regularly inside the cave. I don't know about you, but I think I would rather enjoy some flowstone and stalactites with my Beethoven!

These traveling video's is just what my soul needs. I sure do miss my traveling days. I am currently debating on selling my home and going on the road... Guess is should just go buy a lottery ticket instead, but would sure be cheaper than owning a home on land...Call your church to have someone to give you a break to take a shower or just sleep, or take a quiet walk.....That was the hardest thing I ever did. ~Deb

I see there's a million steps down, to get to the walking part. Do you have to climb the same million steps back up, or to you pop out somewhere and they put you on a shuttle back to the entrance? Hahahahahaha.
@Totally-trailer
@Totally-trailer 7 жыл бұрын
MrTommy001 That's a great question! You wind down and through the cave system. Some steps here, some slopes there and you end up coming up a sloped ramp at a different exit (across the way from the gift shop entrance and RV park area). So different exit point from where we started, which was fun because we never had to backtrack.
