I purchased this set in 1990 and has been on display in my man cave ever since.

Nice! I think I recall it at a Strawberries then. This one may be ‘90 too, as I suspect the ‘88 version had no bar code.

Right on, bill, thanks for sharing, sounds like a killer set. It took me a long time to get in to purple, and In Rock is still the only record i like front to back from them, but i do dig alot of their stuff. Cheers

It’s very good, I was just set up for an all-time great. Although this better sound has me liking it a bit more.

That GD box was a fantastic find at that price. I count myself lucky having purchasing it back in the day - copies are now hard to find and very expensive. There's a second, similar box set for the following years and I passed that one up. Regret that still.

Cool! I’ll have to keep an eye out for that. Discogs also shows this in an odd box with a crate drawing instead of In Rock that I didn’t notice until after filming. Same discs, far inferior cover art.

Cool you snagged that. Looking forward to your next vids. Stay cool, Bill.

Bill, I get a lot of enjoyment out of your show. My favorite on KZbin. If you didn’t make it to the Deep Purple/Yes show in AC last night, I have an extra ticket for tonight’s show at PNC in Holmdel, if you want it, gratis. Let me know.
@classicrockmetalreview85233 ай бұрын
Wow thanks so much for the compliment and offer! I’d normally take you up on it but have too much going on tonight. Dam that sux! Enjoy the show, I heard it’s a great double bill. I’m eyeing KK/Accept 9/13 in NYC tho.
@russellmacarthur94563 ай бұрын
@@classicrockmetalreview8523 no worries. I feel compelled to do something for you, because you entertain and inform us so much on your own time. Would love to send you a top-shelf libation to enjoy when taping one of your episodes. Kk/accept good show, but worried about seeing accept w/out udo, same as I’m a little worried about YES w/out Jon Anderson. Thanks again bill, quit being so lazy, and get more prolific with the uploads, just joking.

Haha how was the show?
@russellmacarthur94563 ай бұрын
@@classicrockmetalreview8523 Pretty good show. I was impressed. Yes sounded very good, great musicianship, the lead singer did his jon anderson thing, wasn't bad. Ian Gillan still has his chops, sounded really good, especially for 79. I get cynical w/ live music now, b/c it's hard to tell what is "live" with all these bands using backing tracks and such now. If it was the real thing, it was good!

Hey Bill great video.....I'm one of those who already had the cd's....now I'm chasing down the deluxe versions.....I bought the 10 disc box set of Robin Trower and I love it....but they've already released his first 2 deluxe....definitely getting them....I'm addicted to extra tracks...outtake jam versions and live versions or shows at the time of the album...Motorhead is especially good at that....thanks
@classicrockmetalreview85235 ай бұрын
I love bonus tracks too. I tend to collect them to make compilation CDs/iPod playlists of them so they’re like a new album or 2. Even to make an entire alternate version of an album sometimes. I’ve had the early Motorhead DEs since jump street. You’re right, some choice extras there, and they sound great. What was nice was the more recent second round of those have a good amount of extras that didn’t repeat the original deluxe extras. Still need Iron Fist deluxe. Thanks again
@larrynolletti45945 ай бұрын
Yes...that newer Iron Fist deluxe is fantastic !!! There's a bunch of outtakes and alternate versions....plus a killer show from Glascow.'82 !!!.....it's actually a lot better than the Toronto show that was on the original deluxe....I have Toronto on dvd....Lemmy said in his book that was a horrible gig...he said his hands were numb and he played lousy bass and " Eddie was horrible "....Glasgow is much better

I’ve got to say this is a serious chunk of music. You talk about In Rock & Fireball, but looking at all of these albums, it’s Burn and Come Taste the Band that I still play the most. The latter sounds like it was recorded last week it’s so fresh. Everyone says the MkII line up is their best but Mk3 and Mk4 come close, despite the drama of 4.
@classicrockmetalreview85235 ай бұрын
Those 2 are my favorites too. CTTB 1 and Burn 2. Prob Machine Head 3 only because I’ve avoided playing so long because of the overexposure, a distant 3 tho

Great Video Bill My Favorite DP Albums are DP in Rock Fireball Perpendicular I prefer the Prog Style Deep Purple

Wow ! Brother Bill ! My you tube had your new video ! It's been so long since I've seen you ! On ebay there's a good box set of UFOs first 5 cd's for 30 bucks, remastered I think with some bonus songs, it's your shirt that made think of it. I can't stands "hush!" I prefer 80s purple. If you see whoosh cheap it not bad , Ian sounds really great 👍, great review again brother Bill. Those are some good old cd's, don't make'em like that anymore. May the Father bless you 🙏. And be with you brother Bill and all here and now 🙏. I will not Consent.
@classicrockmetalreview85235 ай бұрын
Hey dude, how ya been? I just went thru that bag of CDs you gave me like a year ago 😃. Cleaned a bunch up with new cases. Might do an episode about them. Yeah the newer Purple gets a lot of good reviews. I’ll catch up some day. I have a few 90’s albums. Pretty good. That UFO set looks cool but my studio collection and Phenomenon Deluxe have me mostly covered. What do you think of UFO I and II?
@kirkmarlow47025 ай бұрын
Nice , but you tube probably won't let me see that one either lol 😆. I have another bag of cd's that are not as bad , yeah buddy I know the jewel cases ! You turned me on to replacing them . Now that the kids are all grown up. The case's don't seem to get broken as much. Good 👍 to hear you brother. Gotta get together, check out some white lion , if you want to go it not , the band just Mike tramp who's the singer so that's great 👍. Be good.
@kirkmarlow47025 ай бұрын
And the UFOs I don't ! But I do really want to pick up some of there cd's, the live one ,that was just released and remastered. Deep purple, with Ian singing are my favorite ones. Keep cool 😎 brother Bill 🌙.

Nice set! Hard to go wrong with 70s Purple. I do agree with you about In Rock and Fireball. I don't want to say the albums are overrated, but each one has multiple tracks that don't really stand out for me. My introduction to hard rock was through my older brother, via 3 albums : Deep Purple - Made In Japan Black Sabbath - Vol 4 Grand Funk - We're an American Band Burn was the first rock album I ever bought... in 1974, when I was 7. But it wasn't until the later-80s that I dove deep into their catalogue and filled in the spaces. I started with CDs around the same time that you mentioned you did. I bought my 1st player in January, 1988. It was a Marantz that I special ordered from a guitar/audio shop near me for $325 (sounds crazy now!). I do still have my 1st CD... an import of Lizzy Killers (a best of originally released in 1981) by Thin Lizzy. It's still in mint condition! I listened to the new DP album that just came out. Im just going to say that I'm really only a fan of the albums from In Rock - Purpendicular. After that I really don't have much interest. I do love Blackmore's Night, though... and I know I'm in the minority with that opinion. 😂 Speaking of Deep Purple & Thin Lizzy, check out Funky Junction Plays a Tribute to Deep Purple (1973). It's an album you may know about. It's Lynott, Bell, & Downey of Lizzy along with a singer & keyboardist doing DP songs and originals. A truly oddball obscurity! 🍺
@classicrockmetalreview85235 ай бұрын
I hadn’t heard of Funky Junction at all. I’ll keep an eye out. My first CD player was March of ‘88, Technics for $119. I had only bought my first serious rack system January ‘88, also Technics for $500, which remains my core unit to this day minus the rack itself and the humongous fake wood grain speakers. My sentiments exactly re In Rock and Fireball. Come Taste the Band, Machine Head and Burn are my 70’s favs, the most thoroughly good. I’ve seen that Lizzy Killers. My first Lizzy was a comp too, Dedication.
