Blackmore is quite fast and clean on his playing technique, he was definitely a step ahead of his time, but there in 70s it was pretty common for the bands to do live improvisations and DP was known for that since the beginning, so it was a matter of years of experience but also a touch of grace given to this guy, so thanks RB for such inspiring playing! Well said, I agree with you! No other band, besides Deep Purple had that kind of jamming/improvisation. The duel between Lord and Blackmore on stage is legendary, nothing of that is rehearsed and that´s the difference between Deep Purple and other great bands. They were such advanced musicians, way ahead of their time, musically and their shows were completely different from one show to another. Have seen MK II several times on their reunion tour and later on The House of blue light ´87 and to this day I have never seen and experienced anything like that (specially on the Perfect strangers tour ´85). What they did on stage is classic - and will always be. What you wrote about Blackmore, couldn´t agree with you more, he is the Man, no question.

Looking back over 55 years listening to rock, I realize now that the 1970s were really the golden age of hard rock. Best bands ever from Deep Purple to Emerson, Lake and, Palmer. No hair band shit, no antics, just music and a gazillion of talent on stage doing what they did best - play and sing.

Totally agree. Deep Purple and ELP are my 2 favorite bands. I was fortunate to see Purple in 72, 73, 74, 76 and ELP in 74, 77 (Works - with orchestra!). Also saw Pink Floyd Animals tour, LZ, Rainbow a gazillion times (even met Ritchie twice, but that's another story). Saw Tull, Moody Blues - as you said - superb era for music and musicianship.

1966-1978 was the best era for all of music. Prog rock, Hard rock, Heavy metal, Jazz fusion, Prog pop were all great and still accesible. No billions of shitty sub-genres, just innovation.Since Punk took over mainstream music has been more about image than the talent.

Sure, you´re right, absolutely insane, but that also shows the quality and Deep Purple as the top band, no question. I even like it better now than when I was younger and started to listen to hardrock. No other band sounds like Deep Purple, I love this band more than any other band, to be honest more than anything else. Deep Purple is everything for me and Ritchie Blackmore is my all time hero. Blackmore wipe the floor with every other guitar player who thinks he can play the guitar, Blackmore rules, he is The Man, period!

Ritchie toca de forma distinta en cada directo, siempre de forma brillante. Tuve el placer de oírlos en Barcelona en 1985 si no recuerdo mal. El tema funde Bach y rock magistralmente. La guitarra y el órgano dialogan como siempre en Deep Purple, pero en esta canción rompen varias fronteras. Músicos monstruosos.

Still one of my favorite songs of all time and the fact that they performed that live is even more impressive. Deep Purple's musical Talent was nearly Unlimited! The only group that I considered to have been more musically talented was Yes. That's only an opinion not necessarily a fact. The drumroll Ian paice performs near the beginning of this song it's so awesome, when I used to describe his performance I would tell my friends who weren't familiar with the purple yet that Ian paice must have been an octopus. Musically this performance was so tight that I don't think a symphony orchestra can play music that was more in time nor more in unison (tight). They rocked they had energy and another thing that's forgotten in today's world is after they totally kicked ass David Coverdale says "God bless you" no we can't go back to those days but those definitely were the days, Kick-Ass rock and roll and the acceptance of God in our lives

You might want to check out the band's coming out of Japan. Rock n Roll is alive and well in Japan. Some incredible all female bands too, Band-Maid just for one example. I'm 60 and Deep Purple was one of the bands that shaped my teenage years and I am just as impressed with some of the Japanese bands.

I recently turned 63 (where did time go) and I first heard this song at a big party at one of our football team players house. I’m a high school Junior in 1975 and 15 years old. I remember walking into a room where the music was playing. LOUD. I saw one of the coolest album covers, I’ve ever seen. What is that song that’s playing? Oh shit, loved it from the first time I heard it! I don’t remember much after that as I got so drunk, all I do remember is, waking up at 2 or 3 in the morning in some alley, miles away from the party house and to this day, have no idea, how the fuck did I end up here???
