Ian is he only remaining member of the original band. Sadly we've lost 2 members along the way, Jon Lord back in 2012 to the Big C, and Blackmore's replacement, Tommy Bolin, in 1976, due to a massive drug overdose. Jon Lord's organ playing needs no further recommendation, he was legendary. Personally I loved Tommy's guitar work and felt he was easily Blackmore's equal, but he was a troubled young man. Glenn Hughes was also troubled at the time but at least he managed to straighten himself out.

My favorite DP album is actually there last if the 70's with Tommy Bolin(replaced Bkackmore) on guitar. Album " Come Taste thw Band". Check "Dealer".
@guillermo35644 жыл бұрын
jgsrhythym 100 I got to see the Come Taste the Band tour in February 1976, just 19 days before they called it quits. I've been a fan of Tommy for years, so CTTB is one of my favorite Deep Purple albums. Poor Tommy, the guy who replaced not one, but two, of rocks best guitar players during the 70's in Joe Walsh and Ritchie, but he just couldn't beat his demons. I was extremely bummed when he died.

This is my "favorite Deep Purple song ever!! Epic!! Ritchie Blackmore cemented his greatest guitar riff, and Ian paice drumming is off the charts!! Jon Lord keyboard. Glenn Hughes high voice... amazing band!!! wow!
@OneThousandHomoDJs4 жыл бұрын
Jon Lord, one of the greatest musicians of All Time. RIP. No matter who was singing or playing guitar in whichever incarnation of Deep Purple, he made their sound completely unique. Although Coverdale (DP Mark III) was no Ian Gillian, this was a good album, and at least it kept the band alive for a while longer before Ian could come back. I saw them at Alpine Valley in 1987 or 88, 2nd row. Ian Gillian smiled at me while he was happily pounding the crap out of some bongos. Still one of the best shows I ever saw.
