I got pretty obsessed with this song and I m pretty sure the guitar solo is itself a melodic image of the tower being build : It starts low (in pitch) the build up is really long, it goes higher and higher right to the final moment where the guitar stops and "stand still" (time s standing still). This moment IS the moment the wizzard jumps, we can only hear the guitar, all other instruments shuts (no sound as he falls) and the riff finally get back (the wizzard hits the ground) I Can totally imagine the whole story pictured during the whole guitar part.... But maybe i m juste crash 😁😁

The end of the song is about the slaves not knowing what do to, and having conflicted feelings about what to do next. I enjoyed watching you enjoy one of my favs! Ronnie James Dio, RIP.

And then they see a rainbow and their thinking clears and they realize they are free, and they go home. The following song A Light in the Dark continued the story. After going home they spent their lives regretting wasting their lives in search of somebody elses dream.

@@chuckhughes4899 All these years and I'm still not sure about the ending. "My eyes are bleeding ... take me home. I'm coming home" sounds more in line with follower suicide than just literally picking up and going home. The lyrics in the later songs sound like lost souls in purgatory than anything. With Dio's views on religion, how heaven and hell aren't separate realms but Earth itself and how both live in all of us; It seems very possible the lines could allude to souls living eternally in purgatory for following a false Messiah or God.

This was amazing! One of my all time favorite songs by one of my all time favorite bands. If you liked this, please please PLEASE react to Uriah Heep-Wizard. Such an incredible song. The voice on this dude is other worldly. Going back to Ronnie James Dio, I was fortunate enough to have met him not long before his passing. I told him that it was such an honor to meet him and that after all of the years of him singing that he still delivered with such power in his voice. He told me (in classic Dio style) “Without me, you will carry on. Without you, I am nothing.” I am actually fighting back tears as I write this. Those words hit me like a truck. Little did I know at the time that just a few short months later he would be gone. But I do not cry because he is gone. I smile because he existed. Because he was a gentle loving soul. And because I got to spend just a few moments in his presence.

From Wikipedia: The song has been called a "morality tale",and its lyrics are written from the standpoint of a "slave in Egyptian times", according to lyricist Ronnie James Dio. They relate the story of the Wizard, an astronomer become "obsessed with the idea of flying", who enslaves a vast army of people to build him a tower from which he can take off and fly. The people hope for the day when their misery comes to an end, building the tower in harsh conditions ("In the heat and rain, with whips and chains; / to see him fly, so many died"). In the end, the wizard climbs to the top of the tower but, instead of flying, falls down and dies: "no sound as he falls instead of rising. / Time standing still, then there's blood on the sand". The next song, "A Light in the Black", continues the story of the people who have lost all purpose after the Wizard's death "until they see the Light in the Dark", according to Dio

RIP Ronny and Cozy. You gave me the best concert ever. And, of course, Ritchie.

Richie Blackmore's Rainbow, one of if note the greatest guitarist with Ronnie James Dio on vocals, the late great Cozy Powell on drums. This band was epic. Check out Gates of Babylon, Kill the King or the The Shed. The Shed is nothing but BAD ASS.

Dio is legendary here of course and this is one of my favorite Blackmore guitar solos. But this was a great band lineup all around including the late great Cozy Powell on drums.

alley kitty The mind-blowing thing about Children Of The Sea is that it was the first song that Ronnie wrote with Tony Iommi when they were still in the exploratory jamming phase before they realized, "Hey, this works" and Ronnie was invited to join Sabbath.
