I grew up listening to Made in Japan and always wished that I could have seen them perform in this concert. There is no actual footage - the video is an amalgam of live performance clips including the German TV performance and "Scandinavian Nights" There was simply nothing like being at a DP live performance when Ritchie Blackmore was in the mood -because everything was unpredictable but held together by song structures. I was privileged enough to see this lineup twice in 3 days in 1984. Mindblowing is not an adequate description. Just listen to the whole album. Try and get Strange Kind of Woman Lve to react to and the Hghway Star live version on MIJ is pretty special

@@ponytrekker8996 It's from the 3rd night, the 17th August at the Budokan, there's a pretty whole version of Smoke and some other snippets

@@Dibbdroid yes that’s right got a little confused also Highway star. Somebody in the first row filmed some of the show but with no audio.. The tape was found in a studio on a shelf wrapped in aluminum foil and they synced the sound from that night.

The audio and visual are from 2 different shows. Doesnt really matter tho. Onee of the greatest songs ever.

If you like this check out Child In Time from the Stockholm 1970 album. It's an amazing, epic, 19 minute rendition. Copenhagen 1972 and Royal Philharmonic 1969 are also iconic renditions.

I noticed something a bit strange in the clip. Some of it is a black and white version of the 1970 live performance: kzbin.info/www/bejne/haDVi5aFr7OWnac Note at about 6:03 in the Made in Japan clip, the same bored woman in the audience. The shirt that Ian is wearing also changes!

My friend, if the only two songs you know from Deep Purple are this one and _Smoke on the Water,_ why didn't you opt to listen to something new? Or did I misunderstand you? I started with child in time to gage if anyone would watch it, now I know the fans are there I will defo be going through the whole made in Japan album. I want to go through my dad's records so I will be making my way through each track

This is the best version. Made In Japan is absolutely the Greatest Live Album ever recorded. No studio enhancements. Everything is as was on those nights in Japan. In the early Seventies is when Japan started making product exports to the West. Like now almost everything is Made in China. Back then it was Made In Japan. At the time that was the Perfect Title of the Album from Japanese Tour. At this time in Japan Deep Purple was bigger than the Beatles in Japan. Even on the Rainbow Tours in the Mid seventies to the middle eighties there were Japanese Fans for blocks out of the bands Hotels. No one was playing guitar like Blackmore at this time. The whole Album just kicks your ass.

Why I can't stand any of the live Zeppelin stuff... Made In Japan is the standard and no other rock or metal group has ever matched it or them. Maybe Rush, Rush In Rio, comes close, but that's about it. This track encompasses it all! But they were all fantastic and I still have the cd after killing the album long ago.

Interesting what appeals. Deep Purple is incredible live. I prefer Zeppelin live just a tick more. Both were excellent bands
