One of the best live albums ever recorded was Deep Purple's - Made in Japan. This was them at their peak (according to various members of the band) and was recorded very well. The singer was screaming for the mothers. Someone had to represent the mothers that might not be alive when he sang it. Nobody heard the cries of the actual mothers of the babies that were dying. A time when folks were getting back from San Fransisco with rotting flowers in their hair, not knowing where to go while hundreds of people were dying in Vietnam for no good reason. Child In Time was right on the verge, a pivotal song playing on the concience of the folk back then, a divide between the flower-power pop culture and the reality of the moment. The birth of Hard Rock, right there and then. Music never was the same again afterwards.
