One of the best live albums ever recorded was Deep Purple's - Made in Japan. This was them at their peak (according to various members of the band) and was recorded very well. The only member of the band that has ALWAYS been in the band, is the drummer Ian. He's one of the best rock drummers ever and rarely gets the appreciation he deserves. The singer was screaming for the mothers. Someone had to represent the mothers that might not be alive when he sang it. Nobody heard the cries of the actual mothers of the babies that were dying. He was standing in for the mothers' voices and singing their exsistance that was ignored. I might be wrong, but that is what the song represents to me.

You couldn't make it back then if you didn't have raw talent ...gillan is the most underrated singer of all time . The audience weren't told to be like that though . They just didn't have a clue what on earth was happening to them. It was a TV show that had an array of acts on . So those little kids wearing their Sunday bests must've had their minds blown !!! A time when folks were getting back from San Fransisco with rotting flowers in their hair, not knowing where to go while hundreds of people were dying in Vietnam for no good reason. Child In Time was right on the verge, a pivotal song playing on the concience of the folk back then, a divide between the flower-power pop culture and the reality of the moment. The birth of Hard Rock, right there and then. Music never was the same again afterwards.
