Funny thing is… it was Richie’s Grandmother that had a direct influence on the name of the group, as her favorite song was ‘Deep Purple’ sung by brother and sister Nino Tempo & April Stevens in 1966.

Very good. And an additional curio: "Speed King" completes a rock and roll round trip, because most of its lyrics are quotes from many Little Richard songs...

For the cover art alone thumbs up are due. For the music, the witty idea and performance, tenfold! However, this is all fun and humour, but when Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and others actually had done The Honey Drippers thing in 1981, it was plain awful confronted with what we'd expected from these guys. At least I did not consider it funny, rather ghastly instead. Then again, I was 16 at the time.
