As many great guitarist that Don Airey has played with he says Ritchie has the best tone he ever heard. His ability to get the most with less is simply genius. No one has as much detail and the ability to create something different in every song and solo. Just Ritchie, his Strat and Marshall Amps. I love the Classical part in this performance. Sounds like he is playing a Cello. He does play Cello.

I am so glad you've reacted to the live version of mistreated. This is my favourite Deep purple song with Coverdale and Hughes line up. The crazy high falsetto notes where due to the bassist Glenn Hughes. Coverdale too can hit high notes which he did when he formed his own band Whitesnake (example : crying in the rain) Thanks and regards from India.

@frankpentangeli81043 жыл бұрын
Agreed ... the real high notes were sung by Hughes, not Coverdale. Coverdale was belting it out at the same time too, but the more prominent voice during that later section while Blackmore was soloing was Glenn Hughes' voice. Personally, I much prefer Coverdale's voice to Hughes', but Glenn Hughes definitely had his own vocal power.
@Nickepickeparonpung2 жыл бұрын
Exatly Coverdale has blues in his voice, and was only 23 years here, not near his full potential, Ronnie was 34 when he sang it better in terms of just singing as a tenor he was, the raw blues feeling I give to Coverdale🤘

Rebeka thanks you for this treat. Roll you younger people out there this is live in front of about 300,000 people. No Auto-Tune no click tracks no chorus effects on the vocals. Listen to Coverdale and Hugh's (a bit high lol on something white lol) and the band. Really live recorded live on TV show. No fixes no changes nothing. At this time Deep Purple out sold Zeppelin and the Stones in records and audience pull. That year they were the biggest band in the world. That's the truth. Live back them no band could touch them live. OBW I seen Zeppelin, Sabbath and Purple live in they hey days. Live we pretty much agreed then they were the greatest band in the world live. I've seen all three. Thousands of other bands. Deep Purple was known for putting on the best live shows ever back then. If you want to get technical there is slap delay and Reverb on the vocals. Pretty much the only affects they ever used no auto-tune live. I'm a musician myself so you can't fool me LOL cheers

Great Concert! DP was supposed to go on in the afternoon but they managed to convince the promoters to go on stage just as dusk rolled in....BURN is done quite well in this concert, and (Bass player) Glen Hughes' voice is nothing short of remarkable... And he is the high voice you are hearing in this song between 7:36 - 8:00
@RushfanUK3 жыл бұрын
Incorrect, Purple were supposed to co-headline the show with ELP, DP were to go on at sunset so the lights would have an impact and they presumed the show would run late anyway, it didn't run late which is a miracle for these events and Blackmore then played all sorts of stalling tactics to make sure the band went on at dusk, he was really pissed off with the promoters and TV execs which ended up with him smashing one of the TV cameras with a guitar.
@kurtsherrick20663 жыл бұрын
@@RushfanUK And that was exactly what happened. A pissed Ritchie. He said he hit the Camera because was getting on the way and the camera was getting in between the band and the crowd. Ritchie said people didn't pay to see the back sides of the Cameramen. But that on top of the promoters because it was in the contract that Purple would come on so they could use the lights.

Hearing Ritchie tell the story of how he made about 300,000 people there wait for a few hours for Deep Purple to come on, because he had insisted in the contract that they not go until dusk just puts this amazing performance in a whole new light. The people in charge knocked on the band’s door and told them they were on next a few hours too early. So Ritchie locked the door and ignored them. Look at that crowd over his shoulder. Listen to that guitar weep. Coverdale was stellar.
